Svetlano Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 This is great ! I'll buy it as soon as i'll go home. No more hassle and patch hunting.
Forkster Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Awesome. I'm going to purchase it right now! Is Flaming Cliffs 2 available on Steam as well? AKA Poohbear/Spoonman/Brandor - now I'm just Forkster. :tomato:
dooom Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 i dont get it - never used steam before.... does this imply steam users are able to join one another on seperate servers? are steam servers listed in the client list of DCS BS mulplayer menue? whats the benefit? 159th_Viper Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 whats the benefit? Convenience (patches et al) and for some a welcome respite from the Starforce allergy. Never suffered that particular itch myself, but convenience and market-exposure is always a good thing. As far as servers are concerned, I'm assuming that nothing much will change once you fire the game up and the server list appears. Not sure about seperate servers though - would have thought not. Krebs20 Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 I would worry about mods with steam. My past experience with steam is that mods have to be installed manually. The steam directory causes some small issues. Anyone know if modman works with the steam install? I still have nightmares moding my silent hunter 4 install from steam. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

andysim Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 I found the steam service to be pretty good however I have had a few issues mainly with 3rd party programs that run with games sometimes. For instance punkbuster would refuse to run unless I reinsalled the game as admin. To be fair thats more a problem with windows vista than anything but its something you should be aware of. Also patches are a little behind the producers of the games for example a patch for the old Call of Duty was almost 2 weeks late as it had to be written to the steam installers. Not a bad system but can sometimes give headaches.
DTWD Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 I don't really see the point if you already have it. New markets or for people who already use Steam and don't own it I can understand. But then again I suppose I am relativly "old school" and think that hunting down the patches and then finding the right patch for the install you have is all part of the fun. But I have to admit ED make it pretty damn easy (all patches tend to work with all installs) and the copy protection I haven't seen a thing of since I installed it. In fact if I didn't know it was there I wouldn't have a clue it was. Regards [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

DTWD Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 That makes sense for you certainly :) Regards [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
