Hey I was being modest with the feature set... we could always ask for a ground crew fighting minigame to replace the forms...

"Engineering is the art of modelling materials we do not wholly understand, into shapes we cannot precisely analyse so as to withstand forces we cannot properly assess, in such a way that the public has no reason to suspect the extent of our ignorance." Nice concept however I think it'd take a lot of time and resources to get it functional correctly. Example tires - percentage of blowing up will be increased with increasing hours of flight. But there are also things like various soil - concrete will worn tire faster than grass.

I'd see more likely weapons damage. Imagine you see a tank you are excited to fire Vikhr against it but it blows near your chopper and you are damaged.... In Fighters too... want to fire ER and it kills\damages you not enemy (or simply drop from pylon).

Heheh old Rus equipment like Kh-58 or bombs would be non-functional (about 1\3) like it was during last Rus-Georgia war.

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

This thread got me thinking, I like the idea of accumulated wear.

However what if we took this one step further.

  • You have a pilot and you have a plane. This is YOUR plane. You start off with a brand new plane.

  • Every kill you get you get a little decal on the side and your name is printed on it, plus you can stylise your plane a bit, for instance your own selection of artwork. Maybe even a "spray" type system like they have in Counter Strike where you can select from a pre-set of nose textures (for isntance) or upload your own PNG.

  • Any damage you take is shown until it's fixed (even to a point where the ground crew refuse to let you fly until it's been fixed).

  • You get accumulated wear that adds to to the chances of failure during flight, if you get a replacement new part this resets the wear for that part. If it's reconditioned it can start at like 5% or something.

  • If you stress or severaly damage the aircraft it can be retired from service.

  • If you crash and die you have to start again as a new pilot and a new aircraft, everything is reset.

  • If you crash but eject safely you get a new/reconditioned aircraft. Your rank could maybe be a deciding factor on whether you get a new aircraft or reconditioned.

  • Any reconditioned aircraft has it's parts randomised between new/reconditioned/current with associated wear levels.

  • Texture wear would be nice, for instance your plane can become weathered and the buttons texture (for example) get shiny and points on the cockput that get worn and scratched from use do so. You could even have a slow build up of dirt. (this is all quite doable with two sets of textures and you fade between the two depending on the wear rate). Any new equipment is installed clean, any reconditioned equipment will be installed clean but possibly with shiny buttons.

  • What I would also like is then the ability to take MY plane online. Now everyone can see my plane with my textures and know if I look after it or not.

I can't see why any of this can't be done, and it not being overly complicated either. Ok taking it online might add a headache or two. But if ED model each component of the aircraft why can't it have a failure weight? The texture/wear thing is easy, it's just an alogorithim that runs before the texture is loaded "what percentage is each part weathered/worn, so I set the transparancy of the 'dirt layer' to x percent".

On a side note, it would also be nice to have your profile viewable online ala Xbox style, so people could see a break down of your missions and how many planes you have broke :D

Anyway, just an idea that came to me.

Regards
