I just found out that my X52 is dead, or very close to it, as plugging it in results in flashing lights. Even if this problem did not exist, I would have to deal with random control inputs, and the stick getting "stuck" rolling to one side or another.

I don't like the X52, it's been giving me trouble for a long time, and I'd really like a replacement. Saitek is on shakey ground, but I'm will to give them another go as long as it's a different HOTAS.

I'd like to know if there's some general conscenus on a reliable, long lasting controller that has at least as much functionality as the X52.

Price range is up to $100 US, but $150 may be in reach.

Thanks for any advice.

BTW, if there is a way to fix the stick, I'm not sure I'm all that interested. I've already taken it apart a couple of times to try and find the problem (though I'm not an electronics guy, and didn't want to make things worse), and everything I've ever bought from Logitech has always worked without a problem, but sadly the G940 is expensive.

Do you use that one yourself? Any issues? I really want to make sure that if I buy it, it will last.

I used to use an older version of it a long time ago, was a great HOTAS...and comfortable. Never had problems with it.

Seems a bit short on buttons/hat switches. I don't see how I'm going to be able to look around and use the target designator on radar at the same time, unless I keep switching modes all the time. Trim could be a problem too.

Unfortunatly cheap and reliable don't go together.

I too had an X52 Pro that suffered a similar fate and I tried a few other cheap joysticks in the past but none lasted.

I saved my pennies and bought CH gear and I'll never regret it. In hind-sight if I'd bought CH from day 1, I woulda saved myself alot of money...

I'm very happy with my X52Pro and it really is a big inprovement over the normal X52 (had that one too). It doesn't wear down like the normal X52 and trust me, my X52Pro gets a lot of beating :joystick: :D

I got my X52Pro for about 3 years now. One important note though, once a month I spray some gun oil on the metal-plastic base parts to reduce friction to the minimum.

IMO saitek is still the best price-quality stick on the market.

If you have some more money to spend though, it might be good to take a look in to a more metal/heavy stick as the X52Pro is still quite light and not exactly real (unless you fly glider sims :D)
