It was actually the second missile launched at it, IIRC, the first one missed - I can't recall where I heard that one though.

I had a slightly better source than your 'hearing'. I'm well aware of the incident.

GG, you are unbelievable ... BTW, F-15 can not carry eight AMRAAM's .... He, he, he ....

Back on topic, the IR source of a such tiny aircraft is very small I assume. In my opinion, locking on such small IR signature is quite success. R-73 RULEZ!!!

Unbelieveable about what? I never said it meant the missile sucked - in fact IMHO it is a good example for pretty much all missiles contemporary to the one launched.

As far as your opinion goes, plenty of missiles can do that - it really doesn't make R-73 (or R-60, if that is what it was) special in any way.

Stealth = Death

Did anyone find a F-15 with 8 x 120's yet? I have seen a few people in the stats board that seem to only use them.

Yep, that's the one I'm talking about. I'll see if I can ask around and see if anyone that worked on F-15 weapons can help me out.

Good job. Even inert 8x loadout will be cool.

Found this today http://www.af.mil/information/factsheets/factsheet.asp?id=101 look at the very bottom.

Armament: One internally mounted M-61A1 20mm 20-mm, six-barrel cannon with 940 rounds of ammunition; four AIM-9 Sidewinder and four AIM-120 AMRAAMs or eight AIM-120 AMRAAMs, carried externally.

Still looking though...

I quote a answer from a airwarfare specialist, on my question longtime ago, if 8x AIM-120's are needed, or whatever...

"It doesn't matter what the threat, or how well the intercept is run, there is always the possibility that a gomer will get to the merge and then reap havoc - F-16s do it to F-15s all the time. The heaters are an insurance policy that allows them to react very quickly when this happens."

So in this case Cali, if you ask youre F-16 pilots on Luke AFB, may the say the same...:)

Obviously, Aim-9 and 73 can turn in much steeper angels due to weight and aerodynamics. In visual range where the bandit pulling Gs you might get more stable lock from heat signature then radar.

I think carrying 2 Aim-9's seems to be standard for flexibility, as well as making a lot of sense.

The F-22 was designed this way.

You talking about real life here or FC2? I'm thinking real life.

I know when I was deployed our F-16's always had 2 AIM-9's and 120's. Could be the same for the F-15, I'm pretty sure it is. It's kinda hard for me to talk to pilots now cause the shift I am on (10pm-7am) but I'll see if I can some how. I always use the 6x120's and 2xAIM-7's if I'm outnumbered and not many fighters are on my side. My normal loadout is the 4x2x2 which is the best I think.

If some of the short-range issues for AMRAAM and AIM-7 were modeled in-game (Actually, this pretty much goes for all missiles in the game be they east or west) you'd definitely see a need to pack those 9's.

I think there is always a need to carry them instead of the all 120 loadouts. I guess it all depends on how people fly. Up high and far away from the target, yeah, people like that only carry 120's. Since they never get close, they fire run and repeat. Some don't even wait til the timer goes down. Glad to see that the 120's don't have the ridicules scan zone they had before.
