Very nice build Thor77! That's an impressive looking A-6.

The only difference between the two birds was your model (tail number 155704) was actually the first one to be painted in this color. Unfortunately it was shot down by accident in 1996. It was during a live-fire gunnery exercise as part of RIMPAC 1996 that the Japanese Asagiri class destroyer "Yuugiri", accidentally shot-down the US Navy A-6E Intruder, BuNo 155704, of VA-115 Eagles. The aircraft was towing a target drone approximately three miles behind it when the Yuugiri inadvertently targeted the towing aircraft, rather than the target, with its 20mm Phalanx Close In Weapons System. The Pilot, Lt. Cmdr. William Royster and Bombardier-Navigator, Lt. Keith Douglas, ejected and were immediately rescued.

The one I have was the replacement aircraft (tail number 155662) and repainted in the same color to be the "CAG bird". It is known as the "Final Flight" since it was the last one to leave Atsugi NAF in 1996.

I think I need a new display cabinet for my planes:

Funny how fast a collection grows, I think I bought this cabinet a little over a year ago, and BAM a couple thousand dollars later....the cabinet is filled.

So I guess I need a new one. I had to take out a few planes and store them away in boxes, but these are the ones that are displayed right now:

I've been on a trip to Amsterdam last weekend, to celebrate my birthday with my girlfriend and some buddies.

Guess what I brought home with me?

Yeah, a Mudhen Kit and the according book!

Been there once, what a shop! I literally was drained by the time I walked out, way too much to look at. Books are expensive though compared to UK prices, I'd have bought lots of reference books otherwise to help my paint jobs.

Good buy BTW.

I told my girlfriend I could easily spend 1000-2000€ there within less than one hour...

The books they got are really amazing. Unfortunately the one I was looking for was sold out (The Warthog guide).

Where do you find your die-cast helo models?

A company called Corgi made some pretty nice helicopters in diecast. I would highly recommend their Sea Kings, Chinook, and blackhawk.

I just came across this thread, which surprises me a bit since it's right in line with my interestes. I've been building scale models for quite some time. Currently, there's a Barksdale 1/48 A-10A, a 1/48 F-16I Sufa, 1/144 737-800 ("Flying 101") and a 1/72 B-17G on my workbench. The pictures are not the best quality, but here's a few of the past builds:

The shortcomings of the Zvezda kit are well known but nevertheless it still looks cool and builds really nicely. I've decided to spice things up a little and posed her in-flight, with all the manuevering surfaces deflected and the landing gear partially retracted. Here she is.

On this day, 50 years ago, Castro's forces defeated the CIA-led invasion forces in the Bay of Pigs, Cuba. Sea Fury FB.11 '541' was one of 4 Sea Furies taking part in the fighting and was flown by Lt Douglas Rudd, credited with one B-26 kill in the conflict. The idea to build this aircraft came up, when I was on holiday in Cuba last year and coincidentally stayed at Playa Giron when the 49th anniversary celebration was taking place.

What are the shortcomings of the Zvezda PAK-FA kit?

Im making a XB-70 valkyrie in 1/72 scale (HUUUGE) and will post pics soon. Recently invested on airbrush and pump so I expect much better results than the last few models I showed here. :)

Airbrush is indeed like TIR for simmers: Once you get used to it, it really boosts your results!
