dooom Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 When i am trying to evade an AIM-120 launch on me, when should i chaff? I have presumed just before my evasive break turn at 1-2km seperation. I have also read to drop chaff as soon as missile launch detected - just before you break to beam? Advice?:smartass: ASUS Tuf Gaming Pro x570 / AMD Ryzen 7 5800X @ 3.8 / XFX Radeon 6900 XT / 64 GB DDR4 3200 "This was not in the Manual I did not read", cried the Noob" - BMBM, WWIIOL
asparagin Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 I chaff when notching, during beam that is. Then the enemy radar is more susceptible to break. dooom Posted September 10, 2010 Author Posted September 10, 2010 OK - another Q. When tracking the AIM 120 on SPO, ironhand says to break turn at second to last bar. I do this and it seems inevitably early. When do you break? Is there a chart or image showing 120 ranges on SPO? Indicator lights are lit: Sukhogruz indicator located on Left front panel and Pod indicator light on right panel. Toggle them on and off and look for the indicator lights to light up - you'll find them soon enough......It's all in the manual ;) Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? No there is not, because the SPO is not that accurate, it measures signal strength, not range. The bars help you nevertheless in finding the right time to break turn, if you practice and observe the SPO at the same time you'll know when. Robin_Hood Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 In my opinion, you must not use a number of remaining bars on the SPO to barrell-roll-evade the missile. Rather, check how fast it is increasing and initiate the maneuver at an estimated time before impact (1-2 sec). This way, you should be good whatever the speed of the missile ;) 2nd French Fighter Squadron
