Finally got this as a christmas present. So far there is alot to like and alot to dislike. The thing that's driving me crazy the most at the moment is the loading times. Seriously, loading into a race and back into the menu seems to take as much time as some of the races. Even the amount of loading time between menus is just out of control.

I do like the challenges and license school, they are getting quite difficult and you really gotta be perfect to stand a chance of getting gold on some of the later ones. Although I lost out on gold by 0.001 second for one of em and trying to replicate that one run but being that much faster becomes annoying really fast. Tracks are gorgeous and the ones they made up are quite enjoyable, but I can't understand why they couldn't make weather or time customizable.

Can't help but shake the feeling that if they sacrificed a few hundred cars nobody was going to use in the first place, they could have implemented certain features or make loading times shorter.

Did you install? Cut my load times in half I think.

I would have loved half the 350z variants and 1/4 of the skylines and no crap damage model in exchange for more premium cars. Prius is a premium, but not a Veyron. I got golds on the first license and got a crap car, so did not care about the rest and just passed them. Good enough for me.

What ever anyone says about it: I like this game.

I am still using my Momo racing wheel for it that was originally for my PC but it works. The handling model of the cars is great I think.

The GT mode still has the same quirks I guess as before, you can always upgrade a car to the limits and win effortless. Also the events are still exactly the same setup as in earlier versions.

Since now MP issues are mostly fixed, that is really great.

I also like the nurburgring track a lot, it is really an awesome track!

I do not think loading times are too long, maybe need to install it, also it gets faster the more you have played it since it progressively installs itself.

I totally agree on the loading times. Also the way the menus are set up, makes loading times worse IMO. And I have installed it btw ;)

I like the game though, and the overall feeling and physics are good. I just expected a little more after 5yrs of development. :music_whistling:

Ya think it would look at what you have done to your car and tune opponent cars appropriately. I now know what you mean by blowing cars out of the water once you tune yours, it was kinda sad. In one the World Championship series I nearly blew past all the cars off the line. Worst case scenario was I had to pass for the lead into the first turn... and I didn't even max out my engine tuning.

Tonight I had one of the coolest experiences thus far with the game. Most tracks are pretty smooth, however, Le Mans is not. And driving at 160+ MPH on those narrow roads with the car bouncing up and down is downright terrifying. That track and karting in general really have a sense of danger and speed about em.

I absolutely HATE the section after the second Hairpin in the back section. After the long straight with the double chicane you come to the first hairpin. Then rocket down the much narrower slightly curved straight to the second hairpin. Also, braking into that turn is trick as well. Since it has a slight jog just when you need to be at the hardest braking point. Anyway, from there on I am terrible to the start line. Though there is a very nice cut through cheat at the last turn. Saves a good couple seconds. Same with the first braking corner. Take it wide and its all asphalt. Not that I cheat. I think of it as an equalizer since no matter how hard I smack into an AI in the middle of a corner, he does not go off track. But if they breathe on me in the same situation I am against the barrier.

Ventured online for the first time tonight, it was rather interesting. Its pretty cool that you just join a lobby and everyone can have a practice session, screw around, or just watch some race in progress. However the lack of match-making or useful interface displaying how each players cars compare to one another is rather stupid. The first lobby I joined resulted in the guy leaving before I got halfway on the track, it was that un-balanced. The 2nd lobby was on some drag race inspired bridge, so the race was all about horse power. I was still in my heavily modified Ford GT, that absolutely crushes everything in single-player, however it seemed I didn't modify it enough, as the 3 other drivers had much more horse power than I did. I didn't even finish the race as it timed out. I did at least get 2,750 credits for my trouble though.

Having sampled most of the tracks so far, I am starting to like "Cape Ring" as the most enjoyable "normal" track. Its got really impressive scenery and some kick ass turns to boot.

Yes if the room owner did not set anything for car rules it will be very unbalanced. But he has the option to limit it. You have different options. You can limit BHP and weight and such, but also you can offer only certain cars. Also you can do a shuffle race (quite cool!) which shuffles everyones cars after each race.

Tonight I was actually in a race I couldn't win, and it was the most fun I had playing the game yet. It was the Gran Turismo Champions, or some such series of races. The competition consisted of mostly purpose built race cars and were much much better than my heavily modified Ford GT, however there were a few street cars modified for racing, which put up a fight, but were generally a tad slower than I was.

Oh and I started playing with the photomode... its almost more fun than playing the game...

I can't believe the implemented the tilt-focus effect built right in!

I dislike the miniture effect. I have dabbled with the photomode a bit. I do not like that there is no preview though. Its almost a roll of the dice type deal. F stop does not show up as you adjust it, and same with shutter speed. No idea if just the wheels will be blurry or the whole car.

appears they got the water reflections a bit more true to life than DCS though.

Might as well revive an old thread rather than make a new one.

They released the Spec 2.0 patch today. Its a 1.2 gb patch that has several tweaks. Most notably are in-race saves for endurance races, compatibility for upcoming DLC, cockpits for standard cars, and some online gameplay changes.

Apparently they will have a few DLC packs to choose from featuring different types of items. Aside from the cars, which are mostly Japanese Touring cars, the one awesome DLC available is the track pack, which adds Spa Francorchamps and a karting circuit.

Has the engine sound been fixed, or it's still the same whining?

Long time GT fan here from back in the day. Haven't played GT5 in while. Sheese so many games to play, so little time to play em.

Never grow older, get a job and incur debt. Stay home as long as you can...LOL

Never raced online though. I remember reading the online sessions were usually filled with a bunch of people just screwing around.

But if there are some serious racers, I wouldn't mind giving it a shot! Can I bring my Minolta? :P

Finally got this. It downloaded literally 2+ gigs of updates, so I think they've dealt with most issues. Really impressed. I'm not a gear head but this definitely has me hooked. It's amazing how well they've captured the feel of so many different kinds of driving. Highly recommended-karting is awesome!

Edit-it is also 14 pounds now. What a value.

I have studiously avoided racing sims. I already have enough add-on hardware attached to my computer...and I have seen the prices for the Thrustmaster racing hardware.:D

Oh, I know about those as well. My brother is a PS3 racer, I have no idea what he plays, and he was amazed when I showed that stuff to him.

I am safe then, Xbox here.:D
