Id say its still got quite a way to go before its ready to be shipped, but it is, as other people have said, already very impressive. There is quite a few bugs that need to be ironed out, and it does crash now and then. Furthermore alot of the scenery hasnt been added yet, Nevada feels very barren for instance, but that's what betas are for. I have no doubt that this will be one of the best sims ever created for the home computer, if not the best. Oh, I nearly forgot, the HDR light effects, especially with the sun look awesome, but they do demand quite a bit from you computer.

So, for now is it mostly good for learning how to fly the hog and tool around the desert, or is there already a campaign and single missions available (and usable)?

Think of it as a more agile, slower version of the Su-25. You WILL have to adjust the input curves to stop it being too sensitive though.

Nate

Which way do you adjust them to make them less sensative? I've never really understood.

Only problem I have ever had when flying is with my own incompetence.

other than that, it's a beauty sim!

If you aim for the sky, you will never hit the ground.

There are already missions and campaigns available, but they are buggy, so I think its probably best to stick to learning to fly and operate the Hog as of right now. There are training missions available as well, though only a couple of them have voice overs.

I finally got it d/l installed late last night,I've only had an hr or so of stick time and I'm floored by the feeling of flight!!

Here's my question:

Is it a pain to download and install?

Yes, if you live on an island with horrid Internet speed. I think I'm being throttled down by my ISP because I can't think of any other reason why it'd be this slow to download.

ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

I usually hate betas so I had originally decided to wait, but I just couldnt resist :D Afterall, this is DCS:A10C :)

So here are some of my impressions, based on unfinished beta WIP, with alot of stuff broken:

Engine sounds are very good, I love the way the plane feels both on the ground and in the air, the FM is just fantastic. The feeling of flight is much better than in the Su25T, but I was never a big fan of the Su25T so I might be biased here, but to me this FM feels much much better. Its easier to fly then the Su25T, but still alot harder then I expected. On a scale 1-10 if the FCA10A is a 1 and the Su25T is a 10, then I would probably put the difficulty level of flying the A10C at 6. Very subjective and just my opinion. But like I said, even though it feels easier, it also feels much much better to fly than the Su25.

Graphics are very similar to BS, but this is no suprise. Runway textures are much better, and makes taxiing and taking off so much more immersive. Bad performance (low fps), but its WIP and it will be fixed. Still even though its beta and has a long way to go I have better performance in this beta than I had in the Su25T. Not as good yet as in BS though. Having HDR off or on doesnt seem to do as much for fps as I had expected, so im keeping HDR on (GTX470). The small impact explosions of the bullets hitting the ground looks awesome. Fire and explosions doesnt seem to have changed very much from BS in this version. Smoke seemed very similar to BS but I could be wrong here. The cockpit looks fantastic, but you have already seen the screenshots and movies ;)

About avionics, sensors and weapon systems... You WONT be disappointed. This will be the strongest point of this sim, even though everything else is great, this is what will make this sim stand out from everything else. Nothing will come close for a long time.

Everything looks great, but alot of things are unfinished and im worried that the 2010 release will be pushed into 2011. but I dont really care cos I have the beta now:megalol:

Nevada was a disappointment for me, but it also seems very very unfinished (alot of broken and missing stuff) so the final product might be much different. It looks great from high up, but at low altitide the terrain resolution just isnt what you would expect from a 2010 sim. Im not talking about the noise effect, that looks great, but the base terrain texture resolution just isnt high enough. But if you are a hardcore sim fan then probably graphics arent no1 and it will probably be no problem for most ppl, even if this is the final resolution. But for me personally it was a letdown, but like I said it felt very unfinished and hopefully will change. And like I said, looks great from medium and high altitude, so even if its not changed, there is no need to worry, at those altitudes it looks fantastic.

But overall, even though its beta, its already a fantastic achievement and you WILL be pleased I think. But since so many things are broken, missing, unfinished I think that the 2010 release might be in danger, unless what we are getting is a MUCH older version than the more current ones. Anyway it doesnt matter, if you cant wait, buy it and play the beta :)

my first impression was that i need a new pc , apart from the fact that my pc is a lower end system i can still run the sim on low and it looks pretty good. the only thing that i dislike and has realy annoyed me , and it is from BS and FC2 aswell . is the fact that u have single player and multiplayer as 2 seperate things, with such a complex sim it makes it frustrating . for eg: you open single player set your controls then u need to close that and open the multiplayer exe to get online, if u have forgotten to set something or your joystick calibration doesnt seem right u need to close the multiplayer exe and open the single player exe then make your changes close the single player exe and open the multiplayer exe. it would be better with the old lomac 1.02 menu system imo. even if u use single player to make sure your controls are set each time u enter a flight it closes and opens windows and that will lead to crashes for alot of people i reckon.
