Are we talkin about the same thing here?>>

(Sounds like a commodore 64 sound effect)

Real life>>

If your tellin me the current in-game one is final then Im kinda shocked..even Armed Assault 2 (ACE Mod) did it better>>:

Not trying to be picky, but the hog gun is so iconic I would think you have to nail it..its not just another gun.

Now I do understand using a sample, or a variety of samples might not work as you don't know how long the player might hold the trigger for..but there has to be a way around it, they did it on Arma2 and it sounds (feels) freekin good.

Other than that loving what I see from A10 so far..

or should the question be is the sound we heard the real sound from inside the plane and it was played inside and out in the sim?

The sound is different when listening from external behind the plane as opposed to in front of it.

When you viewing a target and after the rounds impact you hear the nice burrrrrp a few seconds later. It is truly awesome sounding.

For some reason the external behind sound is a little strange, but that's not what you hear in the pit or on the receiving end.

What's missing in DCS is the supersonic crack of the 30mm shells in flight. It's missing in many games tho. Arma2 has this aspect of the sounds involved in shooting superssonic bullets/shells very well done. That's why their A-10 gun run sounds so different and more acurate.

Here's one small clip igot yesterday. Most of the growl got lost in the compression tho. Is clear that the supersonic crack of the bullets is the missing part.

Here's a real one:

Yea I haven't heard the cockpit version in-game yet, I just thought its a poor representation of everything I've heard of that gun so far.

The current one just sounds so 'computer generated' and I dunno..its missing the raw pop Im used to hearing.

Yea that too..but their main gun firing sounds so much better and its not even the real 'sim' by any means..but when I played it I really felt like I was in a hog..when you fire the mighty cannon you should FEEL like your unleashing hell..I mean thats how it sounds in all the real life vids I've seen so..

I was making the "what the" face when I first heard it too.

It sounds pretty "beta" -I hope. It really takes me out of the sim. It just sounds fake. FYI. it sounds the same in cockpit.

It contrast, the engines sound awesome, so maybe it'll get some attention too.

just for comparison

in the real one the sound is a bit more "crispy" inside the cockpit, but im pretty happy how it sounds inside. the outside sound could use some work.. or a mod if the current sound is final.

Me too! Maybe it's been brought up in the Beta forum. I haven't bought the current version yet, I wanted to wait until a couple of builds down the road. I was curious if the real GAU8 needs some spool up time or not before firing?

That's how it sounds in the game, except there's no supersonic crack of the bullets. In this clip the first sound is made by the shells flying by and the delayed lower volume "growl" is the actual sound of the gun.

Since you will be inside the cockpit when you pull the trigger, and the inside sound is good, I dont think this is a problem. Maybe they can still change the outside sounds, it would be cool for tracks, movies etc, but not a big thing IMO since ill be in the cockpit ;)

Nobody said anything because we didnt think about it: 1 inside the cockpit it sounds good. 2 there is so much other cool stuff that goes on, no time to think about the external gun sound.

Remember:

If the source of sound (or any other wave, lets say light) moves, the wave lenght changes depending on the source approaching or departing from you!

This is called the "Doppler Effect". If your really want to compare those gun sounds you must have a static sound source...

Anyway, I think they will improve the current beta gun sound later...

Mixed with the sound they make when exploding upon contacting the ground, don't forget about that.
