Rocky49 Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 I noticed that nearly all Profiles for Joysticks assume that you have a TrackIR. Is it really that much better or is it just that you free up a POV switch. Sarge55 Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 It's really that much better. Immersion is greatly enhanced. If mine broke today I'd order another by priority post. Freeing up a POV is an added bonus. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] i7 10700K OC 5.1GHZ / 500GB SSD & 1TB M:2 & 4TB HDD / MSI Gaming MB / GTX 1080 / 32GB RAM / Win 10 / TrackIR 4 Pro / CH Pedals / TM Warthog
andysim Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 I cant recomend it enough, Its worth every penny. I would not fly without it and ive only had it 2 weeks. Say you want to look at your MFDs closer to read them just move your head a bit and you are there. These guys have 30% off sale if your intrested and this is where I got mine. http://www.flightstore.co.uk/trackir-5.asp/simulation I got mine here they are very fast if you are in the UK. I orderd on friday and it came on post on the monday which is good being the weekend and all.
SouthyUK Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 I ordered mine from FlightStore also, very fast, would recommend. Asus P6T SE | Intel i7 930 | Corsair XMS3 6GB ATI 5870 1024MB | Hanns.G HZ281HPB 27.5" LCD @ 1920x1200 Windows7 x64 | TrackIR 5 | Saitek X52 Pro
Tracer2k Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 flying without it is like looking through a tube.. well the screen always reduces your field of vision, but track ir does reduce the feeling of looking through a tube. i started DCS just to try something really fast and i was too lazy to set up the track ir for the 10 sec test... ohh it was horrible.. i still get the shivers :D WOOOOoooooo ------------------------------------------------------ AMD Phenom II x6 1090T 3.2GHz Black edition 8GB DDR3 1333 GeForce GTX580 Windows 7 64bit ------------------------------------------------------
blahdy Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Flying with TrackIR 5 gives you the sense of being in the cockpit. No longer are you locked into a fixed POV when your wing man radios "check six" or your CMSP/RWR starts screaming for missile launch.
Revelation Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 I will have to agree with all of the above! TrakerIR5 is great, if mine brole today I would NOT fly until I received a new one - period, it's that important now. Just like I wouldn't dream of flying a seious sim without having a good HOTAS setup, I wouldn't dream of flying without my tracker ir. ACUTech Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 You can't go without it once you've tried it. That much better? Pffff, it's even more then that! :D =ACU=Tech TECH Systemes Computer 1 Computer 2 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
audiohavoc Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 I agree with all the other responses so far, TrackIR is mandatory for flight simulation in my experience. I will not fly without it, as well as rudder pedals and a good HOTAS setup. Core i7-6950x, 512GB memory, Nvidia RTX 8000, PCIe SSD's, Windows 10 Pro.
Rocky49 Posted October 13, 2010 Author Posted October 13, 2010 Thanks for all the replies...I have ordered the TrackIR 5 from Amazon. I did not get the Clip Pro as I saw on the Natural Point Forum that there were some problems with the design. Ragtop Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 My TCP broke after about 15 minutes of use, one of the little clips that holds the arm with the lights in snapped off. I'd heard they were no good, so I decided to just leave it in the box and use the Vector Clip. Turns out the VC actually works better IMO. The TCP is SLIGHTLY smoother, although the TIR 5 is so smooth anyway your game framerate will be slower anyway. But, the Vector Clip actuallu worked better when I was moving it more unusual ways (looking behind me while leaning out the side of the cockpit), it got confused far less. Overall though, the TCP breaking is not a big enough problem to upset me with my TIR, it's hands down the best thing I bought since a HOTAS. 476th vFG Alumni
Rocky49 Posted October 13, 2010 Author Posted October 13, 2010 Ragtop: That little clip seems to be the big problem all right. I hope that the setup is easy with the TIR...I've been a flight simmer since the 1980 but the lastest software with Saitek seems to be out of control....I have to reinstall my controllers every time I reboot my system...Saitek Forum isn't too helpful either. SouthyUK Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 I am glad I haven't bothered with the TCP now! I was considering getting it, but given how well it works with the VC and the problems mentioned here, I wont bother. I have only had mine for one day, and I think I would have trouble going without. sweinhart3 Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 I had a tcp break but it was cause I dropped it. I personally found the tcp was better mainly in that you dont have to wear a hat which I normally dont. Trying to look down often made the visor block my view to the monitor. The other thing was that its not affected as much by sunlight which would cause interference for me using the track clip.
