Is it, as the title says, a worhty upgrade to go from a E6600 to Q9650?

Only thing is that this processor is relatively expensive compared with the now affordable i7's

My Asus P5B mb supports only socket 775 so it's the only option without buying a new mb and ddr3 memory

Thanks,

Wasserfall

How much budget you got?

I reccon your on a tough spot if your budget is short. I made a jump from Q6600 to a similar CPU: a Q9550 (now at 3.4 GHZ) and it was surely faster but it might not be worth for the amount of money you will spend. Maybe a jump to I7 is wroth contemplating.

Thanks for the reply!

My budget is a bit tight i'm afraid, but i see you have a similar system Pilotasso, how

is DCS A10 performing on your rig?

In 32bit mode i have about 5-7 fps on the airfield and in the air sometimes around 20fps

settings low/medium.

Guess i have to wait a while til prices drop.

I would say likely no. Wait another month or 2 for Intel's next gen processors to be released. They will have $300 chips that are about as fast as today's $1000 I7 extreme chips.

+1

Even if you can't afford the new processors when they're released, hopefully we'll also see a price drop on the current range of CPUs.
