HiJack Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 AMD have just published the release of updated drivers.
Mustang Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 (edited) Identical to the 10.10 beta i posted up a little while back, these just have the WHQL signature http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=59240 i've also heard a 10.10a will be out hot on the heels of the official release today, i'm more interested in them ;) edit: ahh speaking of the hotfix http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/GPU84AMDCatalyst1010aHotfix.aspx BTW wtf is "Morphological Anti-Aliasing feature" Edited October 22, 2010 by Mustang
hassata Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 And what the hell is this new trend of releasing a driver followed by an immediate hotfix lol? Wait a couple of hours. How did the betas compare with the 10.9's Mustang? Any noticeable improvement? Thanks [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
HiJack Posted October 22, 2010 Author Posted October 22, 2010 It does not mention the hotfix in the release notes.
Mustang Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Notes from 10.10a: AMD Catalyst 10.10a Hotfix Features: Support for the new Morphological Anti-Aliasing feature Performance optimizations for systems with an AMD Radeon™ HD 6870 and AMD Radeon HD 6850 series of graphics products installed Aliens versus Predator performance enhancements Star Craft 2 performance enhancements OpenGL performance enhancements – gains can be seen in Prey, Quake Wars: Enemy Territories, and Heaven v2 I've just installed them on my system, going to give them a tryout this evening. Oh, and this hotfix is several weeks newer than the WHQL and beta 10.10 , timestamp is 20th Oct 2010.
Mustang Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 Interesting discussions about this new Morphological Anti-aliasing, seems many guys have succeeded in getting it to work on 5800 series cards  http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=331108
Le0kong Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Did some tests and it looks like Morphological Anti-Aliasing is not very useful on DCS, it sort of remove the aliasing but there too much distortion on the cockpit texts. Did you notice any performance increase over the.9's? Looks like Morph kills (edit: maybe kills is too strong) the HUD. I guess you had the best performance with 4xMSAA. Does going to 8x times significantly affect fps on your system? Thanks Edited October 25, 2010 by hassata [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
KillaALF Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 MLAA is primarily meant to be used in games that don't support AA, either by themselves or by forcing it in the driver. GTA IV is an example of such a game.

Thanks Hard to say since the beta as been quite unreliable in frame rate for me, even if i test with the same settings in game and in the drivers, and watch the same replay i get different frame rates some times. While playing i don't notice any significant difference from 10.9 to 10.10a . I just did some tests on the same scene from the screenshots with AA in 16xQ (i'm not sure if the Q mean supersampling or something else) and lost only 2fps, with the only visual diference been the trim tabs on the wing, the rest looks exactly the same. I have been using 4x in DCS because in other games increasing AA to more then 4X causes too much fps loss with not much gain in image quality. I have no idea what is going on now. And the performance in the Morphological AA is hard to judge since is not made for the 5xxx series yet, you need to force in the installation of the drivers. Kuky Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 I don't like the 10.10 drivers, for me soon after I installed them my screen got little pink colour in it... I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and got the same thing. I reverted back to 10.9 and colour on the screen is fine again. Yup-beta fps is supremely unreliable for testing purposes. Having said that, it seems this may be one of the few titles where in game AA beats ATI. I run 8xMSAA and get better IQ and performance than 8XAA in CCC. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
