Hello everyone.

 

I am a college student and I'm studying Aircraft Maintenance Engineering right now. Right now I have an assignment that requires me to search and describe the rotor head and blades system for any chosen Helicopter. Guess what I've chosen? The Black Shark! Still I have to admit it is quite hard to find information on it. :helpsmilie:

 

The information I am looking for is:

 

1) What type of Rotor Head is installed

2) What type of blade movements are allowed on this head

3) What allows the movement?

4) Is there anything installed to limit this range of movement?

5) Identify how the head is secured to the mast

6) What type of anti-torque system is installed on the aircraft

 

So far, after seeing some pictures and doing some reading on Kamov Helicopters, I've assumed I got questions #1,2,3,6 really good. :smartass:

 

1) Fully Articulated

2) Flap, Feather and Hinge of each blade individually

3) Hinges

6) Anti Torque is created as a result of different spinning directions of the co-axial rotor

 

Questions 4 and 5 are quite hard. I would have to have access to a maintenance manual. Is it possible to have some feedback on the black shark here? Is it possible to have access to such information? I want to do my my project on a Kamov co-axial heli really bad, but I want to do it properly with good references. So, can anyone help me? If I'm not able to do that, I'll have to do my assignment on the Bell 206 or the MBB Bo 105 cause I have access to it's manual and well... it's not as interesting as a Kamov. Yeah. :(

Page 2-4

The Ka-50‟s main rotor system is made up of two triple-blad

coaxial rotors and blade cont units. The upper rotor (top

view) rotates clockwise and to lower rotates counterclockwise

The main rotor heads are unhinged, and the blades are

attached to them through the torsion bars installed in self-

lubricating bearings. The blade spars are designed as hollow

beams of variable section wit glass-carbon plastic partitions

The helicopter tail unit is glue to the spar's butt section...

 

Also, I think most, if not all Kamov modern helicopters have very similar coaxial rotor systems, maybe if you look at another model you find more info ( KA-27/32, etc)

Merry Christmas. http://darrell.halo5.net/outpost/Ka-32_rotors_MM.zip (note this is for the Ka-32, but the rotor masts and swashplates are, as far as I can tell, identical...so it should be quite helpful for you.

 

Quick answers to 4 and 5...

 

As mentioned by mvsgas, the Ka-50 rotor head has no hinges. Flapping and feathering movements are permitted through the use of a torsion bar assembly...actually it looks to me like a strap pack assembly as developed by the former Hughes company in the U.S. and seen on aircraft like the MD-500 series and the AH-64 series of helicopters. For more info on how strap packs work, look up rotor info on those helicopters, there will be plenty of info on the Internet. The Ka-50 rotor head does not have a drag hinge, either, and it does not appear to allow leading or lagging of the blades, only flapping and feathering. As far as limits go, feathering is limited by the pitch change links. Lead/lag doesn't appear to be allowed at all, so no limit there. Flapping upward does not appear to be limited mechanically, although it might be (and I just can't tell) or centrifugal force prevents excessive upward flapping. Downward flapping is prevented by droop stops, but those won't be necessary in-flight, only at low rotor speeds during startup and shutdown.

 

Most rotor heads are secured to the mast with split cones and a mast nut. Not sure if this is the case with the Ka-50, though. I would bet that it's identical to the Ka-32 in this respect, so should be in the rotor maintenance manual I linked for you on my website. I am too lazy to look it up myself right now.

A KA-32 Mainteance Manual? Merry Christmas indeed!

 

Thank you so, so much for helping me with this project. All the pictures posted here plus a MAINTENANCE MANUAL that I can refer to is priceless information. May I ask, how did you get one of these? Do you work on them? I tried googling a maintenance manual for the KA-32 and I got an Suzuki Air Conditioning maunal. :lol:

 

Right now I am going to dig into Chapter 62 and write my project on it.

 

Would you guys like me to post my final project here after it's finished? Someone might find it good and I feel like doing a good work and sharing it it's a rewarding experience.

I'm nor sure where I got the maintenance manual from...but it probably had something to do with AirTito (forum member and former Ka-32 engineer).

 

With regard to lead/lag, that does look like a hinge (you can see it in some of the chapter title pages in the DCS-BS manual, too), but I can't see how lead/lag is controlled (i.e. dampers). I won't say it doesn't lead/lag, I just can't tell how it works, and I'd rather not guess and be wrong. ;)

I also don't understand how it works . For the lead/lag dampers,maybe there could be some kind of "torsion dampers"( that's how i called it,really they don't work in torsion ) like in the EC 135 ,but they are pretty big and in the picture i posted i don't see anything similar.
