bdlarkin Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 I was playing the SMERCH hunt mission and I could use some help. How can one slew the TGP (or other sensor) to a given UTM coordinate? Generically if given a UTM set of coordinates what can I do with this information? I would think it should be possible to create a MARK point at this coordinate location, then slew to that mark point in the TAD and designate it as the SPI. However, I can't seem for the life of me to figure out a way to do that. I've gone through the manual, including the CDU pages, but I don't find a relevant procedure. With JTAC the point is transmitted to your TAD so its easier. Anybody have a favorite procedure? Thanks! p.s. obviously a similar procedure for LAT/LONG would be helpful as well
Bubb Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 You can create a new WAYPOINT from the CDU/UFC (Check the corresponding manual instructions). Instead of entering LON/LAT you'll switch to UTM coordinates and enter that data. After that you can either add that waypoint to a flight plan to display on the TAD or you can select it as steerpoint and slave the TGP to it.
Kaiza Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 The technique I used on this mission was to create a new waypoint and then put it in part of my flightplan. You can review this procedure on page 446 of the manual. It applies for both UTM and LLs. Garfieldo Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 (...) However, I can't seem for the life of me to figure out a way to do that. (...) You can create MARKS using the TGP, the TAD and also the HUD I think. The problem is they do not show up as symbols on the TAD as long as you don't select them/make them active STPT (you have to switch to MARK with the AAP dial). A problem I encountered with this method is that once I switch to MARK mode on the AAP, MARK A, B, C... only show in the HUD as long as there is more than one MARK. If I create one MARK, the only thing that shows in the HUD is MSN001 or something similar. Anybody else have this problem?
Furia Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 The process is quite straightforward. Create a waypoint with the given coordinates in your CDU, make that waypoint your Steerpoint. Make that Steerpoint your SPI and bombs away  All the answers are in the excellent Flight Manual. :) [sIGPIC]http://menorca.infotelecom.es/~raulurbina/ESA/banner_furia.png[/sIGPIC]
