Aviators Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 good morning to you, I have a problem with a mission of the campaign, 'on the other side' every time I get up to altitude to overcome the mountain, the yellow light will illuminate and engine rpm is lower, therefore I can not overcome the mountain and the helicopter crashes to the ground. how can I do? bogusheadbox Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 You need to keep a good forward speed up (even during the climb) as air flow over the rotor disc creates lift. If you find that you are not going to make it over in the first attempt, circle round (keeping your airspeed) until you gain enough alititude. Hovering requires a lot from the engines so trying to hover over the mountain in high altitude conditions will not do it. There are lots of discussions on this, try searching for it and you will find recommended speeds that will assist you. Also, some people like to re-arm before take off with as much as they can carry. Unfortunately you can't as the air is thin you will need to be pretty light.
Aviators Posted November 22, 2010 Author Posted November 22, 2010 could post some links? please L'importante non è stabilire se uno ha paura o meno, è saper convivere con la propria paura e non farsi condizionare dalla stessa. Miro Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 At this altitude indicated Airspeed is lowest than real Airspeeed, You need 125-135 kph Indicated (Metric option enabled). Good Luck Alpinist  EDIT: Also turn all deicing systems! :pilotfly:
Bushmanni Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 You can get over the mountains with full weapons and fuel load without a problem, at least if you fly with the right speed and start the climb early enough. Of course you can always fly up the side of the mountain in a serpentine style, but remember to turn always away from the mountain when changing direction and try to keep the number of turns to a minimum as turning reduces climb speed. If you start the climb early enough, you don't need to reduce speed to the 130km/h but you can climb with higher forward speed and get to the destination faster. At high altitude you can climb maybe 3m/s only, so 1km climb will take about 5.5min. At 200km/h you will fly 18.5km during the climb. If you climb 2km it will take twice the distance. Of course you can climb faster when at lower altitude and it will require less distance but my point is that climbing to a high altitude takes time and distance so you need to plan ahead, preferably before take-off.
