When threads are moved, could we please be told where they have been moved to so we don't have to go on a wild goose chase every time?

Thanks in advance.

I was thinking of it more as a courtesy really.

I don't mind that things are moved, it would just be nice to know where so you can go right to it.

Oh the irony if this thread would be moved :P

I wouldn't...

Ooops, I did. :D

Anyways, please do take care to see where a thread you start might fit best. The less threads we have to move, the more likely it is that we remember to ensure that the redirect is correctly applied. We do usually apply a 1-2 day (I use 2 days mostly) redirect, so that for a while there will be one of those "thread moved" links where it used to be.

You can also enter your account through clicking your name at the top right, then click Statistics, and then click to see all threads started by you (or all posts), complete with clickable links to them.

You are told.

There is a re-direct that is left in place for a specified amount of time, usually 24 hours. If you are indeed following a particular thread, that should be reasonable enough time to ascertain where it has been moved to.

That said - would not be necesary to move threads if they were posted where they belong in the first instance :)

I am soooooo good. :D

Another note as well though - there is also a function at the top, under Tools, for subscribing to a thread. This will give you a link to the thread in your profile no matter where it is.

With all due respect I don't understand the attitude you are taking over this. Not all of us who support ED have the opportunity to spend time here every day and no, 24 hours is not always enough.

A simple message by the moderator stating as an example - this thread was moved to the Forum and Sites Issues area would be a common courtesy to those of us who don't always have a lot of time to spend here. That's all I was suggesting.

The re-direct serves as the message. If you have an active interest in a thread and know you are not going to be frequenting the forum for a while yet, subscribe to the thread as per EtherealN's suggestion. Alternatively just look in the logical place/forum for the said thread if you cannot find it upon your return - it will be there.

Well, rohnt...

With all due respect

I wish you would give some respect to us who volunteer our time to moderate this forum. We are volunteers. We have never received a dollar for the service of moderating and organizing this forum. If you want to speak of respect, give us the respect of trying to parse the sectioning of this forum before posting. This means less of our free time spent correcting your mistakes.

I don't understand the attitude you are taking over this.

The attitude is this:

1) Partaking in this forum is fun.

2) Having a family and a job takes time.

3) Since number 2 is non-negotiable, correcting your mistakes in parsing the forum reduces number 1.

Not all of us who support ED have the opportunity to spend time here every day and no, 24 hours is not always enough.

So your free time is worth more than my free time? Mmm...

If 24 hours is not enough, subscribe to the thread. Really, it really is that easy. The rules of this forum are accessible very easily and through posting you have agreed to them, and part of said rules is to obey the sectioning and endeavour to place posts and threads where they belong. When they are misplaced, this will be corrected. If you do not like this, subscribe to the thread. If it is a thread you started, use the integrated facilities to list all your threads.

You are talking about between 5 and 10 minutes of my free time. You and another hundred users who have the habit of not bothering to care about checking where a thread belongs. Multiply that by my time spent moving them.

Stop talking about respect. You do not respect anyone by these statements. In fact, the standing rule is that we have the autority to issue permanent warnings for this kind of thing, and we have not done so, but with this lack of respect for the time we spend (again, we are volunteers, we are not paid, we could be handling our missuss during the time we are correcting your misplaced posts) I just might start using that power.

When you join a forum, check up on how it is partitioned so you can place your threads where they belong. If your time is too precious for this, don't complain when we do it for you.

Another tip to find your posts or threads:

- Check your own public profile page, aka click your own name somewhere.

- On the statistics part of the page, click the "Find all threads started by <myself>".

Displaying results as posts (not as topics) helps too if you aim for specific post and not the whole (sometimes multipage) topic.
