RIFLE_JTAC_TRAINING Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Fellas, Im new to DCS A-10 and Im getting around to weapons slowly. For my quick missions is there a way to see tgt's on my map and transfer them onto the HUD. As it stands now I just look at the map and talk myself on to the tgt by using terrain features. Thanks for your help. This forum is truly amazing. Dave. 26-J39 Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 HI Hawg63, welcome to the forums.. Your question is a little vague, can you provide more info on exactly what you are trying to do..? You wont see targets on your map (TAD) unless they have been DataLinked to you..
RIFLE_JTAC_TRAINING Posted December 17, 2010 Author Posted December 17, 2010 OK, So I go into a quick mission and once Im airborne I find my tgt's on the map (F10) I think. From there I head to that location by rough cardinal direction. The tgt's I see on the map. is there a way to have them up on my hud. That way I can put my pod and mavericks on it right away. Thanks again. 26-J39 Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Ok.. In general I think you might want to read the manual abit to get some basic concepts down.. The great thing about the A-10C is it utilizes a targeting pod which will be your main sensor to find your targets. If you jump in the instant action mission the first thing u want to do is- select A-G mode on the TGP ( targeting pod) then u can use the "China Hat Aft Long" command to slew the TGP to your steerpoint/waypoint..
StrongHarm Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Read the manual.. you won't regret it.. It's a good thing that this is Early Access and we've all volunteered to help test and enhance this work in progress... despite the frustrations inherent in the task with even the simplest of software... otherwise people might not understand that this incredibly complex unfinished module is unfinished. /light-hearted sarcasm

You might want to enable the 'easy avionics' mode (might be called 'simplified avionics'? - in the options/gameplay screen) to enable 'game mode' targeting. I'm not sure if it's implemented in the current beta. Also in the gameplay options screen, make sure you've enabled labels - this will show a text label and a dot to indicate the position of units. These options can be overridden by the missions, unless you select the "Always use these options" checkbox at the bottom of the gameplay options screen. If you're wanting to play in 'realistic' mode, then the question would be - what system do you expect to be responsible for marking enemy positions on the HUD?
GGTharos Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Hi HAWG63, Never-mind easy avionics, that's a crutch. To help yourself out here, do this: Place waypoints on top of your targets (so if you have a group of tanks, stick a waypoint on top of it). With HUD as SOI. select a waypoint, then slave all to waypoint and switch SOI to the TGP. This will give you an initial SPI on top of your target to start from, and you can attack individual vechiles from there at your own leisure. The basic idea is to target a waypoint near your targets, then slide the pod off the waypoint and target individual vehicles. If you are playing a mission without this sort of set up, then you are a bit SOL and you need to locate the targets on your own as you have been doing. OK, So I go into a quick mission and once Im airborne I find my tgt's on the map (F10) I think. From there I head to that location by rough cardinal direction. MTFDarkEagle Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 That's key when creating a mission, not to forget to set the target waypoint at 0" AGL (or something close to it)! Otherwise you would have a target point 8000" feet in the air.. Not very handy when searching for targets ;) Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread
bulletproof Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Read the manual.. you won't regret it.. Wow... pretty intense. Invasion of the body snatchers right?
Frogfoot1606687865 Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 On a similar note, does anyone have any tips on how to locate those pesky SAM sites that keep spiking me? The RWR gives a rough idea of the bearing and the type of threat but I often can't locate them until I see the launch, at which point my focus is on evasive maneuvers and 'bravely running away' dispensing chaff/flares ECM... after which I am usually still none the wiser to the damn SAM's position. Using the wingman to engage air defenses sometimes works, and I can mark his SPI on the TAD, however this is often a 'one shot deal' as he is very brave but rather foolish and more often than no gets shot down. Any tips would be gratefully received. RIFLE_JTAC_TRAINING Posted December 17, 2010 Author Posted December 17, 2010 Thanks for all the great replies, I am in the manual and there is still lots to learn as this is the most intense sim I have ever played. China hat keys V and C don't seem to work for me. Also in the lessons most don't have the speaker and they bug most often. Is this an issue with others as well?
