mavyalex Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Hello, Is my PC configuration suitable to run this simulator? It takes ages on high and medium video settings. Only in low settings does it load fast enough.. Just as a reminder: My PC config: Windows XP SP3, 4 gb RAM DDR2, Intel E5200 Core 2 Duo 2.5ghz, MSI P-35 Neo (motherboard), nvidia 9800 GT 512mb. Should I just install a better video card, or do I need to get a better motherboard and processor too? What about OS? Can I keep XP ? I just want faster loading times and more fps. Thanks. Frazer Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 I think it wouldn't hurt to seriously start thinking about upgrading everything you have. In other words, get a new computer with win 7 ;) Till then, fly with everything on low. Forum | Videos | DCS:BS Demo1 / Demo2 | YouTube Channel [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Kuky Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Yeah I agree, I think you should upgrade all of the main components (Motherboard/CPU/RAM and video card) and get Windows 7 64bit PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
Boulund Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 (edited) Your PC is a bit on the low-end to run A-10C I'd say. But still, as you already figured out it works anyway :) The main thing you should upgrade is the processor, or at least consider overclocking it. In Black Shark the graphics card you have should be more than enough but I'm uncertain about whether it is the perfect match for A-10C, of course it never hurts to have a too powerful GPU ;). For faster loading times i think your best bet is an SSD or something along those lines. It is not stated in your post, but is your XP 64bit so that you can make use of all 4GB of RAM? Not that it'll make a big difference anyway but worth considering. Also, there were many mentions in Black Shark where moving up to Windows 7 gave significant improvements to overall game performance. Edited December 19, 2010 by Boulund darn, too slow for the two guys above me :) Core i5-760 @ 3.6Ghz, 4GB DDR3, Geforce GTX470, Samsung SATA HDD, Dell UH2311H 1920x1080, Saitek X52 Pro., FreeTrack homemade cap w/ LifeCam VX-1000, Windows 7 Professional x64 SP1. FreeTrack in DCS A10C (64bit): samttheeagle's headtracker.dll
Para_Bellum Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 With that system I wouldn't bother to upgrade any of the existing hardware. A new grafics card would help but then would be slowed down by the CPU. And upgrading the CPU will probably be problematic due to the motherboard. And the 4 GB RAM is not even fully used under XP. I'd get a new system, with Win7 64 bit.
mavyalex Posted December 19, 2010 Author Posted December 19, 2010 (edited) Do you think future DCS simulators will be even more demanding than DCS: A-10C? Otherwise I will just upgrade until I get a new computer. Damn..And I bought this PC less than 2 years ago and I thought it would last at least 3 years! Couldn't DCS develop simulators less demanding in power and graphics and still delivering better results (do we caal this optimization or better coding??) Efficiency? I have no idea what programming language is used, so I don't want to judge. AND yes I have 32-bit Windows XP SP3. I have 4 gb installed, and only 3.2gb used..Someone told me there a soft that could use the whole 4 gb, but didn't find it until today. I'll overclock the CPU in the meantime..Shouldn't hurt... What about GameBooster? Does it reaalu enhance performance for this simulator? Edited December 19, 2010 by mavyalex "Always check your 6 o'clock if you want to live!"
Tone71 Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Careful with overclocking, especially if you're not sure what you're doing (not being patronising, just don't know how experienced you are). It's a bit like gambling, only bet what you can afford to lose... You blow your CPU and you'll end up having to get a whole new system anyway! Windows 10 Home, Intel Core i7-9700K @ 4.6GHz, Gigabyte GTX 1070 G1 Gaming (8GB VRAM) on 34" LG curved monitor @ 3440x1440, 32GB RAM, TrackIR 3 (with Vector Expansion), Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS, Saitek Combat Pedals, Thrustmaster Cougar MFDs.
