metalnwood Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 OK, a search has not clued me in so here goes. I can't get my wingman to use his mavericks. From a distance I identify my target with the TGP and create an SPI. I then radio to the wingman to attack ground target with missile from defauilt and he acknowledges something along the lines of target of opportunity at my SPI. Then he doesn't. Last time I though I had success as he started to gain speed and go past me - and then go past the targets and then to who knows where. Any help? Thanks!
nomdeplume Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Wingman identification of targets seems slightly flaky in B4, but it might just be me. Pretty sure he was okay with Mavericks though. To get them to attack with... you need to be broadcasting your SPI, using DMS LEFT LONG. There is a symbol on the right hand side of the TAD, I think it's just "SPI", which will go inverted when you are broadcasting.
WarriorX Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Getting your wingman to engage targets with weapons has to do with one thing....the wingman must be close enough to the target to call "contact" Once the wingman "see's" the target, then orders to engage are successful. Now what that range is exactly, I do not know. But it seems to be around 4-5 NM. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] "Is that you John Wayne?.......Is this me?" metalnwood Posted January 3, 2011 Author Posted January 3, 2011 Thanks guys, I will retry again soon.
airea Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 In my case, the wingman acknowledges about the contact, ie air defences, I order him to engage air defenses but he does nothing...
andyfoot Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Once you have created the target as a SPI, try "Broadcast SPI" (DMS Long Left) and then try getting your wingman to attack.
metalnwood Posted January 3, 2011 Author Posted January 3, 2011 That for me was the step I kept omitting, broadcast SPI :music_whistling:
Thorvald Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 In my case, the wingman acknowledges about the contact, ie air defences, I order him to engage air defenses but he does nothing... Yep same issue here. Playing the Instant action Easy Georgia Spring, third set of targets is a couple of Zeus's defending a bridge. The wingman calls out the AAA and then I indicate over the Radio to attack all air defenses, he does nothing... However if you die, then the Wingman kicks ass lol. Weird. Yeah man, I also recognized that, after I am killed, the wingman starts an attack run... Maybe he is programmed to take the revenge of my death:)
ARM505 Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Yes, I also felt that my heroic death freed my wingman from the shackles of my inept leadership, and only then did he proceed to kick ass - no doubt shouting 'FREEEEEEEDOM!' as he did so, or something to that effect.....

Avatar72 Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 I've played that mission a lot for traning purposes and the behavior being described now is the complete opposite from my experience. I havent tried in Beta 4 yet, but in Beta 3, the wingman will attack air defences after he calls contact. He would attack them with any weapon I instruct him to use. If however I get shot out of the sky, he would fly home. So it would seem the logic has been reversed maybe in Beta 4, or has the behavior previously described been your problem since before Beta 4?
DocSigma Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 You need to broadcast your SPI, but you also need to remember ( i forget what OSB it is... i think its 17 ) to switch your SPI to broadcast on the TAD. Irregular programming Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 The same issue exists in DCS:BS, wingman calls target but when I tell him to engage I just get a "Negative" in return. Extremely annoying.
