ONT Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 I hope there's a lot more coming. Don't put to much info and task in each mission. And do lots of training in every scenario, progress. Landing part 1 : Sunny no wind lined up perfect. Landing part 2 : Sunny wind not lined up perfect. up till Landing part 10: Night, rain the Taliban is using you for target practise with RPGs and one engine is busted.
Topcat357 Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 I am also interested in some training videos for Navigation (ie. loading new Target coordinates, plugging them in and navigating to them or using as a target). Also, some more info on using a wingman (ie. receiving target info, broadcasting info to wingie, and sending in to attack) TC
Frederf Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 I hesitate to call upon ED to produce any more tutorials. Their productions are good if not a bit basic-user oriented, but every minute/dollar spent on those activities aren't spent on other things that the community can't do. There are several community sources of training materials in video format. The shortcomings of these are mostly incompleteness, not in their topic, but that they cover "hotspot" interests and their information density. You'll often watch a 10 minute video for 2 minutes of information at best. For an encyclopedic resource, what would be good is an outline-style breakdown of individual topics that absolutely spans what there is to know. Then to link in various videos, topics, manual references to each "slot" as they are produced.
docehrenhoefer Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Well, Frederf, I do not agree... the training missions are too little for an absolute beginner simmer. So, all the basic and advanced familiarization steps should be covered, otherwise it is frustrating for a newbie. I mean advanced avionics and attack techniques. BTW, beginners should be advised to start with MSFS, just to learn the basic flying techniques. It is much easier to learn to land a C172 with 60 MPH than to land an A10 with a landing speed of approx 150 MPH...
Frederf Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 I don't mean that the suite of a dozen or so tutorials is sufficient for the beginner, I mean that the tutorials that do exist are geared for the relative novice. Tutorials sufficient to educate the user from novice to completely informed matches if not dwarfs the scope of making the actual simulation software in the first place.
Heli Shed Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 (edited) It all depends in what you want from 'tutorials'. If you want to become an expert simmer at the end of it, that has a complete understanding of flight dynamics and intimate knowledge of the internal wiring of the cockpit and know EVERYTHING about EVERY system in the cockpit, then go read the Manual........a thousand times..........put it down, have coffee and then read it again.............another 1000 times. If however, like most, you want to be 'profficient' in the cockpit and 'Flying', 'Navigating' and 'Fighting', then as Fred has said, scour the forums and embrace what those members have done for their peer community. Videos and documentation. Watch and read them all, evaluate in your opinion, select and remember those that deserve a re-visit from you. ED has already stipulated that they will no longer produce Producers notes but they WILL incorporate some interactive tutorials with the final release, as we have seen in these Beta series. Ultimately, you'll learn everything you 'NEED' to know by following this basic advice and then actually 'FLYING' with real people in a real online squad. Get some airtime, dont be afraid to ask questions, and frequent different servers for different mission types. Then when you've done all that, sit down and make an encyclopedia about it all. Good luck. 'T' Edited January 10, 2011 by Tyger Come pay us a visit on YouTube - search for HELI SHED
Heli Shed Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Well, Frederf, I do not agree... the training missions are too little for an absolute beginner simmer. Who said this was an absolute beginner sim? This is an AHFM (Advanced High Fidelity Flight Model) and if you think you will be able to jump in and blow stuff up, zip back to base for tea, cake and medals (all in 5 minutes), forget it. Thats called HAWKX, Commanche 4 or Apache Assault. Many people said the same thing about the BlackShark when it came out. cries of 'its too hard'.....'how do you fly it'...........demands of 'someone PLEASE help me', all were highlighting the AHFM concept of the first sim EVER to accurately replicate the aerodynamic characteristics of a specific Combat Aircraft. It aint easy - simple. (or not as the case may be). Am i saying that the 'noob' is unable to fly AHFM concept sim's? absolutely not. I left the simming world after EF2000 and came back to BS. Started from the ground up, learned the hard way, learned a bit more, joined a great squad (the 104th), learned a little more and then created the 104th's BlackShark Training Academy (yes it was and still is, 'elitist', but each to his own) and became their Chief Flight Instructor and later one of their Sqn Leaders. The point is, that it takes time to become profficient in any AHFM conceptualised sim such as the BS or A-10C. Not only Time, but regular time in the cockpit, physically flying it under different payloads and weight levels. Understanding how she reacts when you push her to a certain parameter, will all add to your learning. Also with time comes Patience. A lot of people have forgotten that this is a major key attribute that we all need and have needed in abundance, when we first start out in AHFM concept sims. Again, good luck. MadTommy Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 For the 1st 2 weeks of having beta1 i actually somewhat dreaded starting it up.. it was very daunting. I started with air starts, used the gun for a bit, used the rockets for a bit, etc etc etc, just learnt it in small steps. i'm now pretty confident with all the system... it does take time, it does take a lot of reading, but once i broke the back of it i was loving it. I found the official training tutorials pretty useless for me personally. i5-3570K @ 4.5 Ghz, Asus P8Z77-V, 8 GB DDR3, 1.5GB GTX 480 (EVGA, superclocked), SSD, 2 x 1680x1050, x-fi extreme music.
