Raz_Specter Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Hi Guys, I know this will probably get moved but i thought as I was only interested in doing textures for the A10 I would put it in here. Can anyone point me in the right direction to get started modifying textures within DCS A10? Raz_Specter Posted January 6, 2011 Author Posted January 6, 2011 (edited) thats great thanks, I noticed that i will need to edit some dds files, I will be using Photoshop CS5 x64 to edit the skins. I have read somewhere on the net that there is a dds plugin for photoshop, some people are saying that it doesnt work with the x64 bit bersion, is this true? What would be the best app to modify skins in the dds format? thanks Mithandra Edited January 6, 2011 by Raz_Specter Custom built W10 Pro 64Bit, Intel Core i9 9900k, Asus ROG Maximus Code XI Z390, 64GB DDR4 3200 RGB, Samsung 1TB NVme M.2 Drive, Gigabyte AORUS 2080TI, 40" Iiyama Display. SmokeyTheLung Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Sorry in advance for my lack of understanding on this one, It's the LUA file labeled "description" in any of the various a10c folders that one should edit? Does one need to convert the LUA to a different format to edit it? What programs will work for this? Paint? Thanks System specifications: Computer, joystick, DCS world, Beer
joey45 Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 try notepad ++ 1 The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. SmokeyTheLung Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 (edited) Thank you. I'm wondering, what will notepad++ do for me, considering that I'm trying to re-paint the hog, does notepad++ do anything but text? @CHSubZero I'm assuming, perhaps naively, that somewhere in the A10c beta folder there's a file that consists of a 2D image of the hog skins. Is that where your instructions are pointing us? Edited January 8, 2011 by SmokeyTheLung System specifications: Computer, joystick, DCS world, Beer
joey45 Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 LUA is code and you shouldn't use normal notepad. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. CHSubZero Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 My description above was how to add new skin files as a new skin in DCS. For finding and editing the DDS (2D skins) do the following: Go to the directory "...\Eagle Dynamics\DCS A-10C Beta\Bazar\World\textures" Open the file "A-10.zip" with WinRAR or whatever you have Extract the files starting with "a-10c_81st fs(sp)_1-" to another directory you should now have 12 bmp.dds files (from "a" to "l") rename those files whatever you want (e.g. "MySkin-a.bmp.dds") In the newly created description.lua (see step by step above) rename the original file names to your file names Copy your edited skins to the directory "Eagle Dynamics\DCS A-10C Beta\Bazar\TempTextures" Copy your description.lua as descriped above ENJOY your skin 2 Aviation Livery - Explore Military Aircraft Liveries My Mods: DCS User Files
