flydragon126 Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 just curious. it seems that the word is only used on aircrafts. so before aircraft was invented , the word should not exist. so why did a person name the parts by the word AILERON ? or ELEVON ?
aaron886 Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=aileron "Little wing." If you have questions about where a word comes from, just google for its "etymology." Elevon is a mutation of the word Aileron... it just means an aileron that can operate as an elevator. Elevator-Aileron.
AlphaOneSix Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Just like "avionics" was not originally a word, but a combination of "aviation" and "electronics".
