twobells Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Ok, now I am a little anxious, this is my 3rd hog and 'seemed' to be running fine on an external powered hub but since serving dcs a10 yesterday I get the occasional flickering (momentary on/off). I have the hog on it;s own usb hub, trackir to the main board and all my other crap on a separate hub. Any ideas? ps what is strange is that it seems to be somehow connected to dcs a10 in that it doesn't flicker at any other time! Yskonyn Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Just a loose shot here, but are you sure you have a sufficient PSU (power unit) in your PC to provide enough juice too all hardware when under load? Processor Model : Intel® Core i7 CPU 980x Mainboard : Asus P6T SE BIOS : AMI 0805 02/24/2010 Total Memory : 6GB DIMM DDR3 Video Adapter : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480 Plus two external hubs, one loaded for external hdd and peripherals the other just powering my Hog (am NOT putting my hog to mainboard) Each hub is powered from the main board. Yskonyn Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 850 watts should be fine, however with the current video cards being power hogs you should make sure your PSU has seperate voltage rails and a steady power output instead of peak output. (The exact phraseology slips my mind right now). Cheaper PSU's often don't have steady power output over each rail. This is commonly causing problems with modern hardware. Cowboy10uk Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Yep I get that as well TwoBells, My Hub is externally powered, But I think It is struggling with the demand. To be honest it dosnt seem to be doing it any harm and apart from the light flicker Ive never had an issue. Touch wood. I do have my Track Ir and Headphones / trackclip plugged in as well, so Im guessing thats it. Try a external powered hub by itself and see if that solves the problem. only £20 and you can never have enough hubs ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Fighter pilots make movies, Attack pilots make history, Helicopter pilots make heros. :pilotfly: Corsair 570x Crystal Case, Intel 8700K O/clocked to 4.8ghz, 32GB Vengeance RGB Pro DDR4 3200 MHZ Ram, 2 x 1TB M2 drives, 2 x 4TB Hard Drives, Nvidia EVGA GTX 1080ti FTW, Maximus x Hero MB, H150i Cooler, 6 x Corsair LL120 RGB Fans And a bloody awful Pilot

S77th-konkussion Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 (edited) heh.. yeah I just had to get a 7 port to hook up a webcam I got for Xmas.. And I had already added a 2 port finger plate to get to 8 total.. One of my front ports takes care of at least 3 devices that are not permanently plugged in: Camera, Itouch, ext. SSD, But Succellus- you could condense a little- A separate scanner & printer? :D Also- FWIW- My microphone/ headphones work great from my front side phonojack. But- I HAD to use that because the USB adaptor that the headset came with was so frickin BLOATED it blocked the port next to it... Yskonyn Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 :D Well you could buy a Logitech G15/17 keyboard and plugin the mouse and Iphone/Ipod/MP3 player in the ports on that one. Frees up two mainboard ports for important hardware. Game controllers and external harddrives usually work best on mainboard USB ports and oftentimes plugging them into USB hubs causes the one or the other problem. konkussion's tip is a good one too! ;) Buying a printer/scanner combo frees up another port. The webcam probably isnt used always, so you could swap that one with the Iphone/MP3 player or something like that, you catch the drift. I am not fond of USB hubs. They have caused more problems than benefit in my case. But last time I used one was years ago, maybe the tech is better today. ;) I, for one, stay away from them anyway. I rather switch around some plugs. S77th-konkussion Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 I didn't want one either... forced into it cause I'm not working- thus cannot get one these sweet new MB's with 10 ports on em.. For anyone else paying attention- ALL my flight controllers are plugged into the main board. The Powered HUB has my canon multi & my HD webcam.. S77th-konkussion Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 (edited) No- but controllers plugged into hubs are the First thing a "support tech" will blame it on- true or not.. To avoid what might be a ruse to get you out of their hair -endeavor to get your controllers into the MB. Try to limit hub use to printers and other stuff.. That's all I'm sayin' That and a couple items that might save people a port or 2 Edited February 7, 2011 by S77th-konkussion [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=43337&d=1287169113[/sIGPIC]
Slammin Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Ya know, my Cougar MFD's have been doing this from day one. They constantly drop out and reconnect daily. Sometimes, they won't light back up and I have to go into Device manager and disable/re-enable to get them to light up again. Very random too - sometimes it's the left MFD, sometime the right one. Both were plugged into my monitors USB HUB. I just got my Dell U3011 yesterday and neither of the MFD's are hooked up now. I do have the Hog throttle plugged into the monitor USB hub though. So far, no issues. I also had the Hog plugged into my old monitor, but also ran it plugged into the mobo for a few weeks, no issues.
