Question about the bomb fusing: Nose, Tail and N/T (Nose/Tail).

The "Nose" setting is used for low drag - basically just dropping the bomb 'slick'. A "Tail" setting is used for high-drag drops or retarded drops with the extended ballute. So what happens in the "N/T" mode?

The nose/tail setting uses both the nose and tail fuzes. If the tail fuze is set, the ballute on the Mk82AIR will be armed to deploy after release, so the N/T setting will also drop the bomb in a high-drag config.

Right - obviously, N/T setting IS both. But it seemed like they were mutually exclusive options - either Nose OR tail fuse. So the N/T option didn't make sense to me. I am assuming "Nose" fusing means low drag - in other words don't deploy the ballute and that "Tail" option means deploy the ballute; and that is all it means.

Does nose and tail fusing have additional meaning other than drag options - such as a fusing mechinism actually located in the nose or tail of the bomb that is selected?

afaik nose fuse is dedicated to the warhead

That's what I think, too. If you select ONLY tail, then it should be a high-drag-no-bang-drop, which is only useful if you hit the opened hatch of a T-72.

Nose/Tail fuse option only has an effect on MK-82AIR in the sim, this is because fuse types are not modelled in DCS, at least in the current modules.

To give you a bit of background on fusing, a bomb will normally have 2 fuses, one in the nose and one in the tail (in case you hand't guessed ;)). These can be of the same type, or different. For example you could use an airburst fuse in the nose and an impact fuse in the tail, or have an impact fuse in both nose and tail but have different delays set in each.

Therefore by setting either nose or tail the pilot can select the most appropriate method of detonation for the target. Now say you had an airburst fuse in the nose and an impact fuse in the tail and you wanted to attack infantry in a tree line, airburst would be the best choice for this you'd select nose right? Well not necessarily, while using nose only would do what you wanted selecting nose/tail would give a backup in that should the nose fuse fail (happens more often than you'd think) the tail fuse should still ensure the weapon detonates.

Now, in sim N/T selection only effects the MK-82AIR. Selecting N/T will only effect deployment of the ballute, the weapons will still detonate regardless of N/T, nose or tail selection.

I hope, this will be modelled in later DCS modules. :)
