D-Scythe Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 I was just briefing through the cockpit textures in LOMAC (mainly the Fulcrum, Flanker and Eagle's), and noticed that because there is no clickable pit, the whole cockpit skin for these aircraft are basically just simple textures layered one over the other (although LOMAC in-game does do some perspective stuff to make it more realistic). This is perfectly compatible with Aeyes work in F4. For those that don't know, he does these awesome photorealistic pits for F4, although he also does pits for the MS Flight Sim series. I was wondering....why not LOMAC as well? LOMAC doesn't have a clickable pit, so the actual coding/programming would just go as far as the alignment of new textures, the already coded gauge needles and stuff, (plus replacement of old ones) and no further animations, because mostly everything is in place. How cool would it be to have even just the F-15C, A-10, MiG-29A and Su-27 (of which Aeyes have completed already) with the new pits? e.g.
Guest ThomasDWeiss Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 That screenshot is sooooooo beautiful <sigh>
BOPrey Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 First of all, that screeny is PS. You can't really use Aeye's pit for LockOn. LockOn's pit is not just texture, it has a lot of 3D objects. You can see that they are 3D object when you switch the display to stereoscopic mode.
D-Scythe Posted June 22, 2005 Author Posted June 22, 2005 Well, I heavily tinkered with the cockpit textures, and yes, although the pits of the original 8 maybe 3D, the rendering of the textures is basically 2D - i.e. you won't get real time shading of parts that *should* be shaded (like under the VSD in the F-15) without darkening the entire pit. I'll post screenies later the emphasize, but I'm pretty sure in the original 8 flyables, the pits aren't really 3D. Although you are right in that the 3D model determines the 'shape' of the pits, which can be a problem. You can actually take a look at the textures themselves with a CDDS browser and see that most of the shading is painted onto the textures, rather than rendered by the game (like shadows in external view). Aeyes pits are no different, which is why I'm suggesting it is very possible to implement some of his work easily into LOMAC. And yes, that is a PS job ;) EDIT: Here's the all-cockpit shading affect I'm talking about. Notice that none of the specific shadows are emphasized; rather, the entire pit is darkened evenly (except for the ball). The actual appearance of the pits are determined by the textures, not their 3D models.
ThirdELTPoznan Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 Talking about LOMAC's cockpits... I'm looking forward to clickable cockpits in LOMAC's succesor. Also current cockpits aren't bad but it would be really nice if we could have some alternative. Cheers 3ELT GROM- Grupa Reagowania Operacyjno Manewrowego
Lobolopez220 Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 Aeyes was already working on a Lomac cockpit, checkout the following thread: http://forum.lockon.ru/showthread.php?t=6540 This was a while ago though and since then things have been quiet.... Lobo
ALDEGA Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 I don't think that was intended for Lockon, rather for a Falcon 4 pit.
Lobolopez220 Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 I don't think that was intended for Lockon, rather for a Falcon 4 pit. Yup you are right. The particular pics in that thread were for an F4 pit but he did say the following: "Hi there, Well I have been looking at a Lockon pit lately, they are pretty nice already Not sure how my pits would fit in, but it is not an impossibility. Am doing a MiG-29 for F4 currently, great plane and pit." So who knews maybe if there was enough interest it may happen..... Lobo
SUBS17 Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 Aeyes is working on the pits for Allied Forces from what I've heard. [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
