"Taxi to runway 21"..

Err ok i know what direction it's facing.. but that is all. Some airfields its easy.. on others it's not so.

With external views enabled.. i hit F2 and zoom out to figure where to go... with no external views i drive around like an idiot! :(

In fog with no taxiway lights its bit of a

As I and others have suggested, try the DCS airfield diagrams, created by Shu, linked earlier in this thread.

I've noticed that despite having a map expanded further East with new airbases Tbilisi, Mozdok that represent true RL airbase layout as well as most of the Georgian airbases and airstrips that we had in FC2 most of the airbases in Kuban and North Caucasus still remain unrealistic!

For instance Anapa, Khanskaya and Novorossiysk apear as first or second class airbases in LOMAC/FC/FC2/DCS while they're far from it IRL. Couldn't ED do something about make it it more reallistic. AFAIK location of Novorossiysk AB is a urban area for the last 30 something years!

Based on my research of the in game fields I suspect some of them go back to Flanker 2, a number of the old fields that are in lockon all have the same width and length, I think it might have been an engine limitation at the time they were designed. The new fields especially around Tbilisi are fantastic.

Operationally, shouldn't radio chatter be kept to a minimum?

Back in 1940, in the Battle of Britain, we knew when Luftwaffe raids were being launched and approximate strength, by listening to radio checks and take-off chatter long before radar picked them up.

I'm sure that lesson was learnt and that operational airfields run (ran?) with the minimum of chatter on pre-briefed times and clearances, a good look-out and running lights. So I wouldn't be expecting the equivalent of civilian ATC.

Maybe just a 'rolling' call, and any exceptions (ie aborts)?

Cheers,

Keith

This is why only flight lead leads would be in contact with ATC, and would get clearance for the whole flight to taxi/takeoff. And it's also why we have secure comms.

Here are the Airport Diagrams. Hit F-10 to see which airbase you are at, and where you are at on the airbase, and then look at the diagram for that airbase. Then when the ATC tells you to taxi to a certain runway, you can check the diagram to see where to go.

~~EDIT~~ also, I don't take any credit for these diagrams, I had no part in creating them, just passing them along.

Even if its encrypted you can tell that something is going on, and by the volume of traffic the likely number of aircraft :)

Is military ATC encrypted? They would need two sets of radios - one to talk to the aircraft with encrypted radios and one to talk to everybody else, and everybody else would not know that (e.g) four A-10's had just been 'cleared to cross 27R and take off on 27L departing to the North at 1,000 feet' etc.

Cheers,
