Weird Flickering Issue = A-10C Unplayable :(

Recommended Posts

Installed the 64-bit release version the other night, but I'm finding that after about 20 mins of play I get a strange almost double-vision effect all across the screen. See this screen dump:

Linky

I'm running an Nvidia GTX460 which is factory overclocked only. I'm using Nvidia's latest driver (268.56 iirc). Vsync, HDR and TSAA are all enabled. I've also checked that the card isn't running too hot - 62 deg C doesn't seem too bad during game play...

I'd upload a track from the last mission (Hideout) I ran, but I don't know where the last, default track is kept these days (if at all).

Please help - this is making the sim unplayable!!

Hi Crash - Just a shot in the dark, but are you alt-tabbing at all? I noticed that alt-tabbing for me creates some pretty weird graphical anomalies in the 3d world.

i9 9900k - GTX 2080 Ti - MSI Z87 GD65 Mobo - 64GB HyperX Predator RGB DDR4 3200MHz - Win10 64 bit - TM Warthog w FSSB R3 mod - TrackIr 5.

Ensure nvidia 3D-vision isn't active for some reason. Displaying 3D on a non-3D screen can cause things like that.

Yeah, not sure if I have been Alt-tabbing or not during that mission, certainly not around the time of the anomaly happening.

I does look a bit like a 3D, stereoscopic image. Any idea how I might disable this?

Strange that it happens at a random point in the mission...

Yes, that is weird.

Did you install the Dx9 June 2010 redist?

Also, do try rolling back to an earlier driver. Sometimes newer driver isn't the same as better driver.

Yep, installed the redistributable just as a matter of coarse.

3D settings appear to be off in the Nvidea control panel... Not sure how else to check it...

Will try and roll back the driver next. Will also try another mission first to see if it is repeatable.

Crash,

I uninstalled Nvidia's 3D capability from control panel/ install uninstall programs. It's a standalone part of their software. No ill-effects since uninstalling.

Maybe the 3d is setup to use a hotkey to enable it? It probably matches something in DCS.

Nate

Yep, It's definitely possible.

Thanks, I'll give this a shot.

That happened to me to. I was flying well above the mountains, and I think it was Hideout or Serpents Tail. (Apologies as this was several days ago.) My screen became blurry, exactly like in your pic.

My initial thought that it was that it was modeled in the game as if my O2 supply was off or had failed, and I was beginning to black out. (I seem to remember reading something about that being modeled, I could be mistaken.)

I didn't have time to look to see if that was the problem, as I was defensive when it happened and was shot down shortly after.

I am running an ATI 6850 card, no 3D software enabled, Win7 64Bit.

Ahhhh I had forgotten about Hypoxia, that will produce an effect like that.

Edit:- Looking at the pic again, that is exactly what it is. Turn on your Oxygen :)

Nate

Is that really it?? To be fair I would have been at about angels 20, so there would be a strong possibility of it happening.

I definitely had the oxygen on the second time as I distinctly remember testing it during the ramp start. Could it be a bug in this training mission or somewhere else? Has anything changed in the start-up sequence in the release version since Beta 3 wrt the oxygen system? I'm using an old checklist from B3...

I'll retest it tomorrow morning. If it happens again I'll try descending and see if it cures the hypoxic state!

Good catch (I hope).

You can also try setting the oxygen to 100% to clear your head.

Nate

Just to confirm, it was definitely Hypoxia  :D

Switched the O2 supply to 100% and it cured the wonky vision ;)

Thanks for your help guys - glad it's a feature (a cool one at that) and not some hardware problem :D

Ahah! Hypoxia. I wouldn't have thought of that. Going to have to try that feature properly sometime - for some reason the oxygen switch is the one thing I seem to never forget. (I forget everything else though. :P )

Ask your Missus/GF/Mistress/Better-half to hover in the background with a frying-pan, looking over your shoulder, all the while observing with express orders to whack you about the head with said frying-pan the moment you enter a Hypoxic state :chair:

Wee bit harsh you might think?

Nope!

Two-fold advantage:

1 - Will do a long way to actually simulating the real deal, admittedly with a wee bit of pain involved.

2 - Will ensure you NEVER make the same mistake again.

Thanks for the help! I almost started freaking out that there was something wrong with my graphics card.
