Lonecrow66 Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 I'm waiting for DCS to relese these in an A-10 model... http://flyit.com/ Wow those gotta be at least 10k. Wonder if it comes with the projector for the wall too.. --- May your takeoffs equal your landings!
Marmusman Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 regarding TrackIR....there is a EBay Store that sells New TrackIR 5 for $139.99 with free shipping. I have not bought from them (I am cheap and use FreeTrack), but a friend did. It was the best price he could find. (before you ask, I am not the one selling them.) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140370917149&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
wickedfastball Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 I see TrackIR4 PRO is cheaper ($99.95) than TrackIR5...do they give about the same performance in DCSW and FSX? I could live with IR4 PRO if there isn't that much of a performance difference. http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/02-products/product-TrackIR-4-PRO.html I have the 4 and it works great in A-10. If the choice is a 4 or nothing, go with the 4. It can not be overstated how much of a difference a TrackIR makes in A-10 and PC sims in general (be it flight, driving, FPS, whatever). I got my TIR4 shortly after BlackShark came out and, wow, what a difference it makes. The "window at 6 o'clock" question had to do with IR interference in the room. As the IR in TrackIR is for infrared, if there is any IR source or reflection of an IR source in the FOV of the camera that it is not expecting, the software will not be able to track the reflectors. I was once wearing a shirt that had a reflective logo on the chest. My TIR was going nuts and I couldn't understand what was up. But opening up the camera software showed, in plain view, a nice Adidas logo on the screen. I don't wear that shirt at the computer anymore... Something to note is you do have to wear something to provide tracking data to the camera. The unit comes with a clip that you attach to a baseball cap which you will have to wear when you play. Thankfully my wife thinks it's cute so I'm good. My daughter rolls her eyes and makes sure the door to the study is closed when her friends come over. :D
Sharkster64 Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Quick question, has anyone tried Freetrack with DCS A-10? Does it work well? This will be the only way that I buy DCS A-10. I will not buy it if it does not have Freetrack capability. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Call Sign: Warhammer
FlyinJ Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 I have a TrackIR 4, and am using a normal baseball hat with it. I have the sensor placed on top center of my 20" 16:10 monitor, and I sit about a foot and a half away from it. I notice that it tracks my head just fine looking straight up, but when I look down too much the thing goes pretty loopy... spinning all over the place. Makes looking down at any of the bottom side panels quite difficult. Anyone have any advice for getting around this? I tilted the sensor so it was looking more down, but that didn't seem to help. The sensor is at about eye-level in relation to me as well.
S D Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Your best bet is to get the IR Camera view up on the TIR software then just play around with diff positions until you find somewhere that doesnt loose track until the very edge of your movement. I too use the "track hat" and have had similar problems to you. I solved it (i say solved it, its the best i am going to get it without the pro-clip) by placing the TIR unit above and behind my monitor, thus increasing the distance between them. I have a corner unit, so luckily i can place the TIR unit in various places on a shelf that's a couple of inches above my monitor height. Also make sure the reflective strips on the hat clip are looking directly at the TIR unit, i have to have the hat slightly back on my head to make sure they line up correctly.
siefex Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 You should seriously consider purchasing Helios and, if you have the money, a touchscreen monitor as well. Here are links to both: Helios: http://www.scsimulations.com/index.php/software.html Acer 23" Touchscreen Monitor: http://www.amazon.com/Acer-T230H-bmidh-23-Inch-Display/dp/B002TLTEAA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1299008965&sr=8-1 I cannot tell you how much of a difference Helios + a touchscreen monitor makes. I would say it is even more helpful (by far) than a TrackIR in terms of ease of access to your controls. In a nutshell, Helios lets you overlay a secondary monitor with all your switches and avionics from your A-10 so that, if you have a touch screen monitor, you can simply "touch" or flick which switch you want to activate. While this does sound frivolous, it is not. It makes a huge difference with regard to how "immersive" the whole simulation experience feels. Combine that with a TM Warthog and you're all set! Just be sure to set aside $1,000 first... Anyway, just wanted to pass this along.
Le0kong Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Quick question, has anyone tried Freetrack with DCS A-10? Does it work well? This will be the only way that I buy DCS A-10. I will not buy it if it does not have Freetrack capability. I'm using it through a Wiiremote and it's working very well. The problem it's only works in the 32bits DCS:A10C using TrackIRFixer. I heard you can use PPJoy to use it with the 64bits DCS:A10C, but i never tried that). So, it does not have Freetrack capabily, but there's a workaround. You can get TrackIR Fixer here: http://naturalpointofview.blogspot.com/ AMD Athlon II X2 240 2.8@3360 MHz | MB Asus M4A78-EM | 4GB DDR2-800 Kingston | XFX HD 5770 @850-900/1200-1300 | 500G Samsung HD502HI | Case CM 335 | CM-EPP 460W | Windows 7 Ultimate (64bit) | Saitek X65F | Freetrack(Wii Remote) | LG 23' W2353V
Sharkster64 Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Thankyou leokong for the quick reply. So it is similar to Blackshark using the TrackIRFixer. What is the difference in performance using the 64bit version of DCS a-10 and the 32 bit? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Call Sign: Warhammer

What is the difference in performance using the 64bit version of DCS a-10 and the 32 bit? Shootist Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 robnpat I have the same stick. I use the 6 buttons on the Left as Modifier buttons so that ...... Button 1 = Cannon Button 2 = Weapon Release Button 3 = Nvgs Button 5 = NWS Button 4 or 6 = China Hat Edit:- to make it clearer, Buttons 7-12 are on the base of the Joystick, 1-6 are on the stick. Hat = Slew Button 7 + Hat = Trim Button 8 + Hat = Coolie Hat Button 9 + Hat = DMS Button 10 + Hat = TMS Button 12 + Hat = CMS Button 7 + Button 2 = Master Mode cycle Button 7 + Button 3 or 4 = Zoom Button 7 + Button 5 or 6 = Speed Brakes Button 8 + Button 4 = Autopilot Button 8 + Button 3 or 5 = Boat Switch Button 9 + Button 3, 5 or 6 = Pinkie switch Button 10 + Button 3, 5 or 6 = Mic Switch Button 12 + Button 2 = CMS Z-axis This is from memory so I may have left one or two things out. Nate Hey Nate. Same stick also. Question. With my hat swich in use as a lookaround in the cockpit (which I like), would it be some sort of conflict to have it mapped with something else. I saw this in Apache Air Assault when I mapped something else in and got for eg., look left and roll left at the same time. RvEYoda Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 well, I have both trackir 4 and 5. The 5 is significantly smoother in some situations (like if you are very zoomed in), but in normal use you won't see much of a difference unless you have tried both a lot. If you're completely new to trackir then there's definitely no need for tir5, just get the 4 and u'll be happy, I know I was "wooooah" when I got mine a couple of years back :) S = SPARSE(m,n) abbreviates SPARSE([],[],[],m,n,0). This generates the ultimate sparse matrix, an m-by-n all zero matrix. - Matlab help on 'sparse'
jeffyd123 Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Funny you mention a man-cave. I already have one, complete with my RC Heli's. I spend WAY too much on that hobby, but I tell my wife I can't take the $$ when I die :megalol: But, I better not push it with a Warthog HOTAS...so I just may as well try a TrackIR maybe you cant take it when you die... but she sure as hell can take it while you're alive bro. LOL I was getting into RC helis for a short time but it is too expensive for my broke butt. I got into the sims and really enjoyed them for a while, but then became bored with it. this hobby has a lot more staying power i think. i7 8700K @ 4.4Ghz, 16G 3200 RAM, Nvidia 1080Ti, T16000 HOTAS, TIR5, 75" DLP Monitor
S77th-konkussion Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 (edited) Yeah. This hobby is expensive in bursts.. I have to try to block out of my mind the pace of improvements of hardware. You'll spend a fair bit of coin to get set up properly- but then you can theoretically enjoy yourself for a while.. A new simmer should not be averse to an initial investment in the $4-500 neighborhood- assuming your computer does not need any upgrades to begin with. You'll just need to try and ignore the impulse to constantly upgrade CPU's and all that.. if your $$ situation improves- well.. have at it... :joystick: I spent some bucks on my computer & gear kind of all at once- haven't really had to buy much in 2-3 years except a new Track ir. My current specs still run my stuff pretty well even after 3 years.. That said- when I do make computer upgrades- it will be a motherboard-on-out upgrade, because I already have one of the fastest chips compatible to my board. There's little to gain in my chips' family. So I'm looking at new MB, chip, RAM. If I did this now-I could get by with the GPU's I have, but I'd rather not of course.. robnpat Posted March 2, 2011 Author Posted March 2, 2011 When I 'rebuilt' my computer last month, I kept my case, hard drives, GPU, and optical drives. I just put in a new mobo, CPU, and memory. Wynthorpe Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Im also new to all this robnpat, blimey its a steep curve! Also trying to justify the 300 pounds for a the TM Warthog.... At the moment im using a Saitek Cyborg Evo which is pretty shitty to be honest. PC wise im running pretty upto date with a i7950@4.2Ghz and a GTX470 so no issues with fps.

robnpat Posted March 6, 2011 Author Posted March 6, 2011 Does anyone have a 'walkthrough' for any of the missions (not campaigns..not ready for that yet), from beginning to end? I've been messing around with Instant Action, but would like someone to 'hold my hand' talking to JTAC, Tankers, Ground Crew, etc. I'm getting my weapons down (except AIM-9 which I will start working on) thanks to SimFreaks' picture guide. I just can't seem to do anything, though, in any of the missions as I am too lost :helpsmilie: Thanks, Rob Specs: Ryzen 7 3700X, G.Skill Ripjaws 32MB DDR4 3200, Samsung 970 M.2 SSD 250GB, Samsung 970 M.2 SSD 500GB, FireCuda 1TB SSHD, ASUS RTX 2060 Super OC'd, TrackIR, Thrustmaster T16000M HOTAS & Pedals
S77th-konkussion Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Get teamspeak and get online. Try to make some arrangements prior to a flight time and meet up wit some folks who can help. robnpat Posted March 6, 2011 Author Posted March 6, 2011 I would, but I don't have the fastest connection. My ISP is wireless...I can play BFBC2 fine (most of the time) but don't think my connection will be fast enough for this sim.
