Not sure if this has been announced yet but why do we now have to sign in for multiplayer? Does it keep track of stats or something?

Also, do multiplayer kills get recorded in our pilot log book?

Thanks

For now it seems to be a form of copy protection. Although the fact that it shows you as "logged in" or not points toward chat rooms, friendlists, and other features of modern day multiplayer.

The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.

Maybe this future update they talked about in the recent interview involves more multiplayer features?

Looks to me its so you can see other servers hosting online flights.

IIRC you don't need to log in to do straight IP flights, but I could be mistaken.

No, you do need to be logged in - this is a point of rather fierce controversy over in the MP forums because it basically 'breaks' LAN play (you need to be 'logged in' to the master server online even if you're just playing locally).

I think they introduced this against piracy - many pirated games can't be played online, but there are applications to simulate a lan network. So they prevented that. Ofc, this doesn't affect singleplayer which could still be played with pirated version, so in my humble opinion the gain is minimal from introducing a master server.

By the way, this is not the first thread concerning this topic. A developer told us he would bring it up in a meeting, and that we should voice our opinion. This doesn't affect me, but I surely can understand people angered by this restriction.
