Hi, can anyone help me understand why when I start a campaign I can't contact tower for the clearances?

the radio is on and with the right frequency

pretty new at this, was having the same issue, until it dawned on me I wasn't pressing the correct mic button. There is mic forward, aft, up, and down. (I think these are the names anyway, mapped them to my stick). Not sure if this is your issue or not, hope it helps.

Each radio as a separate key command to be activated, your using the right key command for the radio you set the frequency on?

I'm using VHS AM and it's confirmed by the heading of the menù. I press the keys for the engine start up clearance but I get no answer. The only one ansering to me is the ground technicians for the exterior power...

APU + APU Gen needs to be on for the AM radio to broadcast. Also double check the freq and check you switched the freq after the radio was turned on (not before).

If all else fails, just use the cellphone.

Also, if you have the radio already set to the ATC's frequency, they'll automatically clear you for startup once you start powering up an engine. At least that's happened to me more than once.
