I searched for a while on this topic and did not find any results. My question is, what is the future of the DCS series regarding the engine it is using?

I am seeing a lot of games right now using DirectX 10/11. Are there plans to use DirectX 10/11 in the near future? Would the DCS series engine have to be totally rebuilt to do so?

Thanx..

Can you imagine how realistic dcs a-10c would look using dx11. That would be awesome. Even more amazing would be the monster machine you would need to run it with decent framerates.

For the most part not all that different to how it looks now, there are very few new DX11 features that would be of use in a flight sim. For the most part using DX11 would improve performance, on modern hardware at least, due to its better ability to spread tasks across CPU threads than DX9.

It was planned to be in A-10C from the start, however as Insanatrix correctly said it had to be put on hold due to time contsraints. As to if it'll be featured in the upgrade for A-10C, or the next module only the ED team can answer that one, and at the moment they won't for obvious reasons.

would think tesselation would be extremely useful for improving terrain complexity. New shaders, maybe add self shadowing in cockpit, reflective surfaces with sub-surface scattering.

Indeed it would, I didn't say nothing useful, just not everything. Not worth delaying the sim for anyway.
