On the ground I get 30-40FPS. BUT, when I look at other aircraft, especially other A-10C's, it drops to 17-20FPS. Only when I'm looking at other wingman. Soon as I look away jumps back up to 30-40FPS.

This happens during the Devils Cross Campaign. You need a super computer to get high FPS on the ground when looking at those other beautiful A-10C's.

and thx for your feedback. Last question (for now hehe:music_whistling:). Do you have HT on or off ?

I have HT disabled. It requires more voltage and gives off more heat.

Also, before I tried disabling two of four cores. I noticed I could get 5.1Ghz pretty easily at 1.43vcore with only two cores active.

Right now I have 3 cores active...at 4.8Ghz @ 1.35v. DCS does not punish your CPU like those torture tests do, that's for sure. I never get over 53c.

Since my RAm is still not there, I decided to take the RAM of a friend's PC that I build.:music_whistling:

I made a track, wich will serve a a benchmark. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VAEJ1JZA

With my actual config, on ground(looking straight in forward) I have between 8 and 11 FPS, looking only at the cockpit about 25-30fps and I got an average of 12FPS for the whole track. Everything is on MAX (including sliders) at 1920x1080 4xAA 16xAF.

I'm going to reformat in a couple of minutes, install the new SandyBridge kit and report back 2d or tomorrow for new benchmarks. Cya:pilotfly:

Yeah, I know that feeling, you are flying along, and then you look down at your keyboard to try and press a button and WHAM! there is a cat there prancing around.

If you aim for the sky, you will never hit the ground.

Ok so I made some (small)tests yesterday and this morning. So far, with the 2600k with HT off and stock clock and have between 2 and 5 more FPS. I quickly overclocked it to 4.8ghz and I have about 5-15 more FPS.

So far I'm happy with it. It's @ 4.8ghz with 1.35v, 39idle-55full load (62-63 prime95). Unfortunatly I'm working 2d and tomorow, so I wont be able to give more feddback until Wedensday

Hello

I'm looking to upgrade my computer and have been reading reviews and trying to compare performance tables between the i5 2500k and i7 2600k processors.

I'd be interested in building from a bundle as the components are already matched and also because i have never assembled a computer before.

From what i've read i think i have decided to go for the i5 2500k processor and have come across the following website:-

http://www.scan.co.uk/3xs-overclocked-bundles

I'd be interested in either the Intel P67 Chipset "Smart", "Radius" or the "Edge" (with the i5 2500k fitted) bundles but would probably upgrade to 8gb of RAM.

The money that i have saved by selecting the i5 processor would probably be used to purchase an SSD.

Any suggestions or advice on these bundles would be much appreciated...

Thanks........

I would probably recommend either the Radius or Edge package with 2500K. I'm slightly partial to the Edge package but I'm torn abouth the cooler - since you want a cooler that can inject air under the shroud on that thing. For a more standard setup (but equally powerful) I'd recommend Edge system with 8GB RAM, I5 2500K, and ASUS P8P67 Pro for motherboard. Keeps things simple. :)

I can't say anything on the processor since I'm not an Intel guy. I just wanted to vouch for Scan, you should have no problems ordering from them, best support I've contacted.

I'm guessing from you saying "I came across this website" that you haven't been there before. Good luck with your system building.

Thanks for your replies.

I think i will go for the "Edge", ASUS P8P67 and 8gb of RAM.

I already have this power supply, but mine is a 650W version which i hope will be "man" enough for the job ???...

I will be using an ATI 5870 graphics card which i already have.

I already have an oversized gaming case which should be ok.

Any recommendations for an SSD ?...

Yeah, it's the first time that i have ever bought from scan, although i have used "Overclockers" which have also been very good.

Thanks...

Best SSD's currently on market are OCZ Vertex 3 240GB (the 120GB is slower) and the Crucial M4, although you cant go wrong with an intel 510 either.

They arent cheap by any measure but they provide stutter free gameplay IMHO as iportant as a high end CPU or GFX.

Stutter free because of SSD?

Dumb question......but....

Have been looking at SSD's, i was just wondering which size do you go for ?...

I have a choice of either 2.5" or 3.5" and they both have the same gb capacities.

A 3.5" drive would maybe fit straight into a standard disk drive tray ???..

Will a SSD require an eSATA cable or would a normal SATA II cable be ok ?.

Thanks....

SDD's include adapter, as for the size, I consider 120GB minimum, 240GB is the sweetspot right now, if you want to install OS and the most demanding games on it. If you install OS on a standard drive you save space but youll be missing somewhat on the performance potential it has to offer.

Note when ordering SSD's and adapters: do double-check that adapters are included. It is not that uncommon that there are none for such units delivered as "bulk".

//Rage, SSD's can solve one type of stutter - the load-stutter. This occurs on a slow HDD (especially if it is fragmented, or just slow, or has nother such issue) when the simulator needs to load a new game asset (such as a new texture, new sound for an explosion, so on). Highly dependent on the rest of the machine though for how well it works, and it does not solve all types of stutters. If your stutter is something else, it won't be adressed by the much faster access times of an SSD.

SSD prices are still steep. I recently got a new rig and I have a 40GB SSD that is big enough to comfortably fit Windows, a few not-very-big items and DCS (Wart Hog & Black Shark) with 18 GB to spare. The rest of my games, data, user profiles, etc, are on a different drive (and a spare 1T drive for backups). It was surprisingly easy to move from an old machine to a new machine with this arrangement.

The SSD I got is not the fastest, it's even just a SATA II, and DCS runs stutter-free. My previous rig, the drive where DCS was installed was a 7200 SATA II, and I did get stutters that I suspected were HDD related.

The coolest thing about SSD is the boot-up time of Windows; incredible!

But yes, loading times is an area where SSD's really shine.

They write darn fast too, its not like we are talking about fisrt gen SDD's. HDD's are beaten in every category now.

Yes unless the game is unoptimized (horribly).

Or driver issues. Some of the semi-common loading stutters aren't caused by HDD lag, but by sound card issues.

Did some more overclocking this morning. Seems stable at 5ghz(50x100) with 1.4v. Idle 35celcius, full load 76 celcius(Prime95 large FFT).

For now, 50 seems to be the max multi I can get with resonable voltage. Will try overclocking the BLK. 102 would be nice.

And concerning the RAM timming, mines is at 9-9-9-24. If I want to reduce timming, does it matter if the 3 firts are not the same??? (ex: 8-7-9-24)

Oh, and what should be the max temp of the MOBO? Mine is at 28idle and 29-30 full load
