Thanks for the link. Using stock cooling I have my I7-2600K overclocked to 4.3. I will try for higher using the guide.

Anyone else overclocking the same chip? What results have you got?

I got 5.3 on a 2500k. I was using the automatic overclocks from Asus and thought it was a all in one program. I hit overclock and walked away. I walked back to see where it was at. congratulatings! 5.3 at 1.5 volts! I didn't stress test that number. Instead I hit reset and set it to 4.4 manualy with stock voltage. I plan to play with it this weekend and see how far I can push it with 1.3 volts. I'm using a corsair H 70 cooler. So far my highest temp was 43degrees. and that when it did its automatic Overclock from hell. My temps in A10 have stayed at 35ish with my current OC.

My lessen is that you don't run the Asus program like it knows what its doing. It doesn't.

Can't really say much about my "results" - they are as in my signature: 4.4GHz using a 43x multiplier and 103MHz bClk, actuated through TurboBoost with speedstep still active. But they don't really count as "results" since I just clicked the "OC Tuner" button in UEFI and let it do it all itself. I haven't really bothered with doing anything manual because up until now I've been restricted by some BIOS problems from using both memory sticks, and while testing I usually revert to stock. (The "OC Tuner" is rediculously aggressive with overvolting though - when at the 43x multi the system feeds it 1.35 volts, which is sort of silly, but even at that voltage I don't go above 60 degrees C using my H70, so I might give it a few test runs.)

I can fly a 2-hour mission with my 2600k @ 5.0Ghz @ 1.43v. I disabled 1 core and HT. So only 3 cores are active. I don't see much a point in having all 4 cores enabled anyways.

I could probably go higher, because DCS doesn't kill your CPU like those torture tests do. If my setup can run DCS A-10C for hours and hours without an issue, that is stable enough for me.

Normally I keep it at the specs in my signature because I don't have the money to replace it if the volts kill it. :-)

2600 k @4.8 Ghz on stock cooling. After about 1-minute with Prime 95 the temps went into the red so I set it back to default.

I don't really have a need to O/C this proc. It's fast enough, faster than the 975 Extreme I replaced.

Generally speaking: do not overclock on stock cooling if the overclock involves added voltages. The stock cooling assembly is dimensioned for standard voltages and doesn't add much extra above that. (In fact, I would suggest an aftermarket cooling even if running at stock settings - as little as 20 to 30 dollars can get you something that is leagues above the stock cooler and help ensure the longevity of your chip as well as give you that margin to OC whenever you decide you need to do so.)

Exactly. I bought the Hyper 212+ for $35 and it's been working great. Max temps running DCS for hours never exceeds 53c.

With the stock cooler, at 4.3Ghz, the temps were 60-65+.

1st thing I did was to put 48x and 1.35v in the BIOS and it's working like a charm. HT off, everything else is auto/default, 12h prime95 stable. 32idle and 62 full load. I tried once with the auto-overclocking but it gave me a BSOD.....

I might reactivate HT as me CPU is so cool. I'm sure I can push it more, but I dont have time for now, and 4.8ghz is plenty :)

43x and 48x multipliers, up to 5Ghz speeds:geek:

The architecture must be totally different to the previous i7's I am not up on sandybridge but my 3.7 ghz comes from 23x IIRC

Correct, new architecture.

bClock is 100MHz as standard, and generally speaking you cannot overclock using the bClock (EVERYTHING is linked to it, and USB ports and such doesn't like being overclocked much. :P) So you do the entire operation with multiplier on the unlocked parts.

When overclocked, my system uses a 43x multiplier on 103MHz baseclock.

I have seen 2600Ks running on 5.2-5.3Ghz on air (but good coolers, and with good i mean bigger ones for 35 dollars lol ) and 5.5ghz on water ....with ease, so 4.8-5.0 Ghz appears to be a standart operation bandwith for those things.

In my opinion compared with benchmarks of other chips out there like the 980X (and price)....an INCREDIBLE OMG WOW HOLY SHOOOT cpu :=).

I hope you aren't using tap water :P

and yeah, their smaller die size makes it so they can run cooler. Just wait until ivy bridge.

If you aim for the sky, you will never hit the ground.

oh and considering auto-overclocking, do we know if the board will adjust voltages wisely and stay below safe limits? Not like my old p5q wich cranked the voltage like mad.............

I mean I dont want it to put over 1.9pll, or over 1.5v for beeing able to boot over 5ghz.......
