Anyone know if its possible to program a 'deadzone' into the TrackIR 5 software.

I am currently using Wags TrackIR profile, but often find it difficult to click a switch on the panel because I can't keep my head still enough (I know I can use pause).

It would be useful, as in the joystick software, to allow a small head movement without the 'head position moving in cockpit'. I noticed there is a Deadzone template within the software but don't want this to screw up Wags profile. :helpsmilie:

Try this, load Wags profile, then save as, to make a copy of it with your own name.

Know what you mean though, if its to sensitive, any little movement gets processed by trackir. Try turning the Speed down as well, when making a deadzone. Tune it while the game is running and paused.

I have mine pretty much at default settings and rarely have a problem, Are you using a proclip? I found that makes it a lot better. It seems like a shame to have something so instinctive and natural as Track IR and then have to make a bigger movement to get your mans head to move.

When occasionally I have had the problem you have, where you cant quite get the switch, it seems to creep away just as you are bringing the mouse towards it, I have found if I make a conscious effort to stop looking AT the switch. Just keep your head still and be careful to just move your eyes.

Then again, maybe I will try the deadzone too.

Yes, it is very possible. It is all done within the TIR software using the curves that you can manipulate for each axis. Tough to explain in writing. Someone needs to make a good video tutorial.

Experiment. Make a copy of the profile and you can try whatever you want. Once you adjust the axis curves, you can see the results live in the TIR software. As you experiment you should be able to figure it out. Read the TIR help file. It is all in there.

Map 'Precision' to someplace handy and hit that whenever you need to manipulate switches.

I know this is probably painfully obvious, but I can't seem to find it. How do you map TIR keys to your joystick?

Thanks

I find using a linear profile helps me out a lot. I just use a straight horizontal line at a suitable sensitivity for each axis. In the A10 I find I want about one and a half times sensitivity for pitch compared to yaw.

Making your profile as insensitive as possible helps too. I have to crane my neck a bit to watch my engines start (or check that my tail is still there...) but it sure helps when my head is looking ahead. There's always some noise with TrackIR, and if you're like me there's some noise built into your head movements too, the less things get amplified the easier it is to click switches.

Repositioning TrackIR's camera can sometimes help a lot. At a LAN recently, a buddy was really fighting with his to keep his view steady, just bumping the camera down about 10 degrees made it much more precise.

One last thought, I personally can't stand precision mode! It just seems wonky to me but to each his own. I do however love pause, and have that mapped to my joystick instead. It helps immensely! I have it set in my X-52's profiling software, but I'm pretty sure you can just click the box for the keyboard button in the TrackIR software and press a button on the joystick instead.

Go into TIR software. There is a drop-down section for button assignments on the left. Click in the window you want to change, and press a joystick DX button.

Thanks guys you have all made very helpfull comments its much appreciated

Having re-read the TrackIR manual a couple of times since posting this message, I now realise the deadzone is only at the center and not anywhere I decide to stop moving my head, i.e. at a switch.

I have now gone round in a full circle and after a couple of minor tweaks decided to use the 'pause' option but not as a toggle as I had it before, seems to work very well now

Its amazing what you learn when you read the manual :book:

My approach is a bit different. I have just a tiny deadzones and leave the curves fairly default, but instead crank the "Smooth" slider (on main trackir 5 screen, in the "Motion Control" frame). Small movements get dampened, and fast movements stay fast.
