DCS A-10C landing with 100 knots of wind directly across the runway!

The canopy currently ignores physics, you can fly with it open if you want.

I lost mine once after forgetting to close it. fine except I was on a MP server. The shame:cry:

I was surprised by the physics (shame on me) which allowed for the aircraft to be sailed backwards as long as I hung enough stuff out in the breeze. Flaps had to be fully extended and full airbrakes deployed. The backwards motion could be controlled by manipulating the airbrake! Tring to turn and taxi back to takeoff position resulted in the wind blowing the aircraft over and crash/burn.

Having been flying in r/l for nearly 30 years, I have to say the more time I spend with it the more I find this sim simply amazing. DCS A-10C is a true masterpiece.

I get the "wind blowing under your wings" part which would cause lift, in terms what we seen as IAS / GS difference. But still, would it be really possible to land the way you did?

Pushing the limits with the amazing DCS A-10C Warthog. The question: With the wind blowing 100 knots directly across the runway can the A-10C make a safe landing and takeoff with out suffering any damage?

Cheers! :pilotfly:

The wind of 100 kts must be served with 3-4 (30-40 units) m/s of turbulence. :)

You will find it not boring.

Yo-Yo, can't you increase the maximum allowable wind? I tried a clean 15% fuel setup but couldn't quite make it hover. :(

I know I know, I can start Black Shark. But anyone who has ever done the An-2 knows the joys of good wind and low stall speed. :D

Absolutely! If (as in this flight) you have no turbulence. In r/l with 100kts of wind you are going to get significant mechanical turbulence as the wind is disturbed by the terrain, buildings, trees, etc etc. In this demo flight I set it with 100kts of wind and no turbulence. As Yo-Yo suggests setting a realistic turbulence which would be associated with such strong winds would be VERY exciting. (read suicidal)

Here's a mission with 100knt winds. There are some soft targets to the east. I have to say that shooting individual troops while at 0 groundspeed hovering 1mile out is kinda fun!

It was designed for two people MP, but you can easily add more clients. Just go into the ME and:

• Open the mission

• Click the pic of the aircraft on the left

• Choose A-10C and Client

• Click near the airfield

• Choose take off from runway on the right for waypoint action

Save

Enjoy

It's a good thing that this is Early Access and we've all volunteered to help test and enhance this work in progress... despite the frustrations inherent in the task with even the simplest of software... otherwise people might not understand that this incredibly complex unfinished module is unfinished. /light-hearted sarcasm

Remends me of when i used to fly ultralights in California when i was younger. We would take off on a cross country at dawn then by the time we got back the Santa Ana winds would be blowing and you had to hover off the rwy at 50' and wait for people to come out and "catch" you then wing walk you back to your parking spot. You never stopped flying till you were tied down in your spot
