KnightRaider Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 Hello guy's! :) Just want to know really if this is normal about my vid cards. I own two EVGA GTX 580 SC vid cards, and on both of those cards are two monitor connectors for a total of 4 connectors. Meaning I can connect four PC monitors. Jus for curiosity tonite I have disconnected my monitor on one of my vid card and reconnected it to another connector behind the other vid card, and after trying the three other connector, none was functionning. What I mean my monitor was all black except for one connector behind my vid card that was working. Is this normal, that when I plug my pc monitor benind one of my vid cards, only one monitor connector works? :( Thank you! :smilewink: KnightRaider Processor: Intel i7 4790S 3.20GHz OC at 4.04GHz OS: Window's 10 x64 Bit Monitor: BenQ XR3501 35inches Graphic Card: MSI GeForce GTX 980 - Twin Frozr V - OC Edition - 4G GDDR5 Motherboard: Asus MAXIMUS VII FORMULA Memory: Kingston 32G DDR3 2400Mhz Hyper X Beast HDD: WD 2x500G, WD Velociraptor 300G, SSD Kingston 150G Joystick: Trusmaster Warthog Hotas, TrackIR5 Pro
EtherealN Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 You might need to give a bit more detail on the setup. I assume the cards are running in SLI? You are using a single monitor? The cards are running in SLI, and I have ONLY one monitor. Silent Warrior Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 If I were you, I'd take this to Nvidia's forum. It sounds like something that's just to weird to happen (which seems relatively common for Nvidia, in recent years), so it's more likely you'll find someone who knows what to do there. But all that aside, how are your drivers set? I'm on an Intel-"powered" :huh:laptop at the moment, so I can't check the settings myself. Are there any settings for what card to use as the main display? Ports/connectors? Hot-plugging, or whatever today's catchword is for connecting stuff while the computer is in operation?
MTFDarkEagle Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 What I think: you have to right click on the desktop, and go to resolutions of some kind, and there you can "detect" new monitors. But as only the #1 connector is connected, you would need a second monitor. My $0.02 :) Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread
BHawthorne Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Power down the computer and reboot. Why are you hot-swapping video ports while a machine is powered up?
RSharpe Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 I don't go around unplugging and plugging my monitors while my computer is on, but I have three 24" 1920x1200 monitors and one 46" 1080p HDTV connected to my two 580s, and I can tell you that Nvidia's drivers/Windows 7 sometimes has trouble detecting the displays when I'm turning them on and off in Nvidia control panel. Pick the output you want your monitor to use and reboot and the system should detect properly.
Slammin Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 If I remember correctly, with a single monitor, you want to use the card and connector that is closest (physically) to the CPU. But, as was said, the monitor detection is not all that reliable without a reboot, and especially since you are not actually changing monitors.
