I'm learning by trail and error and the various videos posted here and there but having a hard time figuring out two things. I use a trackir so it may be part of number 1 not sure?

1) Sometimes my HUD information (pitch angle bars and ccip, crrp, or guns sites will move to the far right of the HUD. It stays there even though I'm flying level and have pressed my center trackir key. Not sure why it does this or how to correct it without starting over. The result is me having to lean to the left just to see some of the display.

2) After using point and track with my laser target pod it seem the orientation of the pod goes "whack", even though I try to bring it back to center up never really goes up and down never down, seems to be locked in to a ne or se movement only. I'm assuming it's because it's not cetnered but I don't know how to get it back center.

Hi rss0900 welcome to the forums.

To answer question #1, you are most likely seeing the effects of a cross wind on your aircraft. The HUD Drift is normal with a crosswind.

#2 is going to be a bit more difficult, can you give me a bit more information? The TGP return to boresight is China Hat Aft short. (Boresight is a technical term for "back to center" BTW)

Welcome rss0900!!! This is a great community! You have to have a thirst for learning and be willing to dig around in the forums, manuals, etc., but you'll get the hang of it. The game is so awesome that it is truly worth the effort.

Another potential solution is:

You may be in "Point Track" mode, which is where the TGP stabilizes on a fixed point based upon optical differentiation. You can tell if you are in Point Track because the TGP display will have a little square in the center of the crosshairs. In Point Track mode, the TGP tries to slew back to the point you were originally targeting.

Take a look at the really well done User manual on the Targeting Pod (TGP Page (A-10C Warthog, approximate page. 320). Scroll down to approximately page 331 looking for "Track mode:" where it describes AREA and POINT modes.

Let us know if any of this solves your problem! Happy tank busting!!!

Really wish the effects of wind were explained at some point. You see the same topics popping up again and again, and hell even I made a topic about the ladder lines drifting away... I don't even think anything was mentioned in the manual about it.

To all :

Thank you for the replies. I've still got lots of learning to do but as you verterans know that's most of the fun ! I'm pretty sure by the time I can actually learn enough to be dangerous in this game the next DCS simulator will be out and I'll have to start over! Regarding the hud movement I do believe it is crosswind and plan to do some testing tonight to confirm based of the thread arteedecco recommended. WarriorX, I think my TGP issue is I simply don't know how to return the TGP to center after having point tracked a target. I've got to find the key to return tgp to boresight I believe that should fix the issue. Nemisis I have seen that message and think your solution will work also.

Frostokin sorry for "another" post on the wind. I am pretty weak on the "jargon" used in a lot of these posts so even thought the answer may be present I often can see it because I can't understand it yet. Now I'm a smart guys in many areas, but airplane operations and jargon is not one, but I sure do enjoy the heck out of trying to learn when I can. I know the manual is our friend, but reading is so boring :) Thanks to all - truley a great forum and members.
