bunraku Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 If your looking for a vehicle or group of vehicles using the pod and it's not emitting radar or anything like that are there any good tips for searching. Even using BHOT or WHOT i can struggle sometimes to pick the wheat from anongst the chaff(Get it) and it's a bit frustrating. Thanx
Sinky Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 (edited) Putting your TGP Level's down to '2' and upping the Gain to around 6 helps. Switching mode's often helps thing's stand out. You may need to adjust the values if it's night time or low light in the morning, those values work best for me in the day time. Edit: Some people can get confused on whether they're editing the gain or levels, best way to tell is it will say something along the lines of 6G, the G being gain... Sinky Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Just for illustration purposes find the vehicles in this screenshot, this is with 6G and 2L. Two tanks and an SA-9. You could also try logical search patterns at different zoom levels to help you out. Screenshot is at just over 11 miles, wide fov and if I remember correctly I used no zoom. This is also at the lowest MFD resolution. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] ASUS M4A785D-M Pro | XFX 650W XXX | AMD Phenom II X4 B55 Black Edition 3.2ghz | 4GB Corsair XMS2 DHX 800mhz | XFX HD 5770 1GB @ 850/1200 | Windows 7 64bit | Logitech G35 | Logitech Mx518 | TrackIR 4 My TrackIR Profile ( Speed 1.2 / Smooth 30 ) - Right click & save as.

Sinky Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Also, if you have a monitor that can handle dynamic contrast, be sure to turn it on in your monitor's settings menu. It not only makes any game look 100% better but it also helps with spotting, for me anyways. For example, turning on dynamic contrast in the middle of playing ArmA 2 transforms it into a whole new world, looks much more realistic. -NFlight- Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Sinky, you should look into changing the resolution of your MFD's to 1024 or 1024 Each Frame... You will be amazed at the difference in quality of the TGP picture... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Win7 x64, Intel i7-970 6 Core, 12GB, ATI 5970, TrackIR 5 w/Clip, TM Warthog, Saitek Combat Pedals

EDIT: Sorry for the week-old bump, ended up at this topic via a roundabout halfassed way, thought it was that current T-pod target searching thread... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Sinky Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Can you clear up for me what 'every frame' does? I thought it was just a setting for SLI... EDIT: Sorry for the week-old bump, ended up at this topic via a roundabout halfassed way, thought it was that current T-pod target searching thread... Don't worry about the bump. I can only go off what I've read on the forums but there doesn't seem to be much of a visual difference from using 'Every Frame', if any at all. The one difference you will notice is a noticeable frame rate hit using 'Every Frame'. Kuky Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 The Every Frame does exactly that... changes/displays image every FPS (or frame)... so if you see 45fps image will be refreshed at same rate (45fps) This does not make TGP image look different and you can't really see the diferrence between 1024 and 1024 every frame... but this setting also aplies to mirrors.. and there you will see the diferrence ;) With 1024 Every Frame mirrors look very nice and sharp (only AA is not aplied on them) and very fluid (if your FPS is high enough) No longer active in DCS...
Sinky Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Thanks for adding that Kuky, I always disabled mirrors because they seemed very clunky. BK553 Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 I've been using A-10 for a while now, and finally decided to join since I feel like I finally have some tips to offer. Anyway, the thing that has worked the best for me is (1) setting gain correctly (Sometimes I test in on civilian traffic on the roads) and (2) Switch between WHOT, BHOT and CCD quickly, as each one is useful in different circumstances at different times. Mapping the 3 different modes to an easy to use keyboard or joystick button helps. Just keep scanning and flipping modes. Also, if you really need help, use labels to practice.
