Overwatch Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 This game looks great. However, I find it a little odd (and an immersion breaker) by flying in an empty cockpit. I would like to see the body, legs and arms of the pilot modeled. It looks weird to look around and see no legs etc. The hands holding the stick could just stay on the stick when one clicks buttons and flips switches. Please add this.
Sinky Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 While I agree it looks a bit bland, the cockpit already eats up enough frames as it is and that's before we've got that patch that adds dynamic shadows to the pit. I don't see any reason it can't be in as an option like black shark though. BTTW-DratsaB Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 (edited) I would never use it, quite a few would seem to like it though. I'm of the frame of mind that I "am" the pilot and "I" am holding the stick. If I could see limbs in the cockpit, it would be kind of like.....I was remote controlling some one else in the cockpit. hmm if you know what I mean lol. I actually find that an immersion breaker. Its the same for me and race sims. If it is possible I will turn off things like steering wheel, driver arms etc. As the steering wheel is on my desk and my arms are holding it. Maybe we should have the option in DCS A10 to remove the HOTAS from our cockpit view. :) Edited May 7, 2011 by BTTW-DratsaB Specs: GA-Z87X-UD3H, i7-4770k, 16GB, RTX2060, SB AE-5, 750watt Corsair PSU, X52, Track IR4, Win10x64. zaelu Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 I'm for existing of as many options as possible. If one prefer not to see the controls fine, if one prefer to see even a pilot body fine. If I would have a A10 or Ka50 cockpit replica in my room probably I wouldn't want to see the game cockpit but as I don't... I'd like to see it as complete as possible. I prefer to see the pilot as I literally see it as me not a "remote controlled avatar". People that say they see otherwise should understand (like I do) that are many ways to see the thing. Is like with women... what one hates one can adore. 213 Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 someone made a joke about this that i think was hilarious and made sense. he said a quadruple amuptee would have serious trouble trying to fly an aircraft. it was in response to an "i am the pilot" argument.
zaelu Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 Not only I used it in BS1 but I feel a real loss in immersion now in BS2 without it. Maybe is strange for others but for me I feel that an empty cockpit does resemble with a remote controlled aircraft... seeing all the controls moving "magically". I wish ED would had gone even further (maybe by providing tips to moding community) by creating animation to the hands when clicking buttons... (btw... when you move your mouse on Desktop don't you feel that arrow as a extension of your finger tip?). Say you wanted to click a button that is covered by one of your hand in cockpit... you place that little cross over the area and you "right click" so that hand will move away a bit letting you see the command beneath... then click the button and the hand returns and activates it. this would happen in real life too. Also... if some delay would appear because of this... would actually be... realistic. Clicking buttons like crazy and going through a startup that normally takes 10 minutes at least in 4 minutes doesn't look to me "realistic and immersive". For example I like the delay I have now in BF3 while jumping from prone to standing and running.. although I get killed because of it many times. But is my fault that I got "programmed" to think that I can sprint from prone. Also... this could be done by moders so no resources would be spend by ED on it (instead of modeling accurate all 37 increments of seat heating of the A-10 :P ) and as an option... toggle-able. but... I suppose I'll have to make do with the modeled pilot in Battlefield 3 aircrafts........ :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] I5 4670k, 32GB, GTX 1070, Thrustmaster TFRP, G940 Throttle extremely modded with Bodnar 0836X and Bu0836A, Warthog Joystick with F-18 grip, Oculus Rift S - Almost all is made from gifts from friends, the most expensive parts at least
Devrim Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 Normally, I didn't use the pilot body in cockpit, but sometimes I wanted to see... Actually, the pilot body was a good material for video makers. For people who aren't familiar with BS, screenshots and videos seem very very realistic. A friend of mine have seen the screenshots in my Facebook photos. Then he asked that how I could take the photos of this bird and how I could take permission from authorioties. :) I can't imagine, how he reacts when see a BS2 video (with pilot body). I created a flight video file with BS2. It's fun to watch it of course. But seeing an empty cockpit... It's a little strange... If we could see the body in BS2, probably we would like to see pilot's shadow on the panels and reflects on the windows. Just a thought, may be ED didn't want to waste time to do this... :music_whistling: Intel i7-14700@5.6GHz | MSI RTX4080 SuperSuprimX | Corsair V. 64GB@6400MHz. | Samsung 1TB 990 PRO SSD (Win10Homex64) Samsung G5 32" + Samsung 18" + 2x8"TFT Displays | TM Warthog Stick w/AVA Base | VPC MongoosT-50CM3 Throttle | TM MFD Cougars | Logitech G13, G230, G510, PZ55 & Farming Sim Panel | TIR5 & M.Quest3 VR >>MY MODS<< | Discord: Devrim#1068
zaelu Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 yes, I heard that was the cause the shadows... but maybe they can be fixed... like exclusions... pilot just receiving shadows but not casting... or something. Anyway... at least with cockpit shadows off it should work (although I love the new cockpit shadows :) ) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] I5 4670k, 32GB, GTX 1070, Thrustmaster TFRP, G940 Throttle extremely modded with Bodnar 0836X and Bu0836A, Warthog Joystick with F-18 grip, Oculus Rift S - Almost all is made from gifts from friends, the most expensive parts at least
