Advicepuppy Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 I've had it for about a week, and literally an hour after using it and it working fine, the green crosshair in the config menu is about 2/3 of the way up and 3/4 of the way left on the "target" diagram. That is, quite obviously unsuitable for flying unless you like to dig holes. Okay I unplugged the stick from the throttle and reconnected... works fine now. I'll keep an eye on this thing and see what happens.
JCav Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 The X-65 is a piece of crap. I own it, and Saitek's support on the centering issue has been nothing short of abysmal. I suggest you return it and get a more quality item.
ED Team Groove Posted May 24, 2011 ED Team Posted May 24, 2011 Are you running Windows 7? There were some updated drivers to counter that issue. Our Forum Rules: http://forums.eagle.ru/rules.php#en
Advicepuppy Posted May 24, 2011 Author Posted May 24, 2011 (edited) I got it off of eBay (new). I did a lot of research, and the only better ones I can think of are the CH which I don't really like (not enough buttons) and the TM Warthog, which is too expensive and not versatile across sims in my opinion, although of top-notch quality. The buttons all work fine on the x65 and I love it and have only had good experiences with it except for that scare with the centering (because I know I'm f$cked if it messes up). I've heard good and bad, but seeing as I got it for $170 new, I don't give a damn. Oh and do you mind pointing me to that new driver update Edited May 24, 2011 by Advicepuppy
CBR9 Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 (edited) Here's the link for the beta's and the SST 7 software ftp://ftp.saitek.com/pub/software/beta/ While I never really had the "center" problem people have been reporting, I updated to SST7 and the latest beta's. The new beta driver have an option to center the stick, and correct a keypress problem with the "shift" option. Support over at Saitek's forum was rather thin for awhile, but it looks like that is improving. At $170.00, I think you got a good buy. Every HOTAS has its good points, and bad. Like anything it's what works best for you. I have the X65F and am happy with it, I also have a complete CH setup that is on the shelf right now as my backup.. No complaints about the CH stuff, just wanted something different. Ordered (awaiting delv) the Saitek combat rudders to complete the Saitek setup. Edited May 24, 2011 by CBR9

jeffyd123 Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 (edited) I wouldnt call it a piece of crap but the longer I own mine the less impressed with it i am. I find the no-movement thing is very cool but Im struggling with it when doing a high-G turn. quality is good but I am seeing some wear in the rotary I use a lot for zooming. the plug going into the stick is an unholy PIECE OF SHIT by the way. shame on you Saitek... you know better. my center has always been perfect and my software has always ran flawlessly. I havent installed the latest drivers for fear that my force switching wont work right.... Im still not sure about this and would like more feedback. Total Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Okay I unplugged the stick from the throttle and reconnected... works fine now. This is not isolated to the X65. Been doing the same thing with my X52 for along time. So used to it now, that I don't even really conciously think about it. Fly, drift, unplug, replug, fly..... takes no more than a second or two I guess lol ;)
CBR9 Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 I held off updating to the new beta drivers because my center was never really a problem. The new beta driver's center calibration and clear calibration appear to work. Plus they have fixed an issue with using shift function in the programing with SST 7 that some users had been complaining about. I had some trouble with SST 7 hanging when loading, after it had been installed a few days. Had this with three different installs and complete restores. An install of just the newest beta drivers and SST 6 did not have the hang on program startup that SST7 did. The calibration tab of the new drivers in the control panel worked fine with SST 6, just didn't show that it did (all settings set to 0) in SST 6. If that makes sense. SST 7 with the new drivers does. I reinstalled SST 7 for the 4th time, disabled the "hints" page that loads on startup, and made sure SST 7 had access to the web in my anti virus. On the startup page for SST 7 there is a link to Saiteks web page that I believe may have been causing it to hang on startup. SST 7 loads fine now, calibration works and shows settings in the control panel and SST 7. Had the connection to the stick come loose one time, but it was pretty obvious.. no lights under the hats. I have mine mounted to a playseat setup, so don't slide the controllers around on a desktop, which might be a problem for others. Before the software fix for calibration, some suggested a unplug and plug of the stick while still connected at the usb plug, re centered it. Never had to use that trick. 1

If you're talking about the silver wheel on the left throttle, then I haven't had any problems with it. Then again I haven't used it that much over the course of the week I've owned it. I freaking love it though, and have no problems whatsoever executing high G turns or precision maneuvers. I also have no problems with the plug, even though it is rudimentary, but it isn't likely to break off inside the port so that's always good. Right now I give it a solid 9/10.
jeffyd123 Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 thanks guys... appreciate the info. My problem is I play in bed (ultra gaming!) and even though my stick is mounted to a 1' x 2' peice of shelving material the base still sort of flexes when I move the stick. My force settings are fairly high as well. Gonna try firmly mounting it and see what that does (I expect it will help a lot) Im going to stay with the SST6 for now and will likely try 7 in a month or so. thanks again for the info CBR! i7 8700K @ 4.4Ghz, 16G 3200 RAM, Nvidia 1080Ti, T16000 HOTAS, TIR5, 75" DLP Monitor
Advicepuppy Posted May 26, 2011 Author Posted May 26, 2011 I"m just as green with this thing as you are. Mounting it on a firmer, less movable surface makes all the difference. Even having it on my mousepad which is thin as hell has an effect. Small, but it's still there.
pacotito Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 As for the cable there is a fix for the x52 I'm assuming it would work with the x65 there's a utube video it involves cutting the cable between the throttle and stick then attaching directly inside the units...basically bypassing the connector.it also voids any warranty. dirtydigs Posted August 21, 2011 Posted August 21, 2011 I've looked inside my X52 Pro and it is very poor quality. Cost me over $300 in Australia and worked for less than a year of use (unfortunately over a year of ownership so no warranty) Basically the ps/2 connection in the stick is stuffed, and so the buttons just flash. Satiek isn't even letting people join their forum anymore, so forget about customer service. I'll see how my new CH yoke goes when it arrives, but I emphatically suggest to all prospective buyers NOT to buy Saitek anything ever. Utter, utter rubbish.
