Sickdog Posted August 27, 2011 Author Posted August 27, 2011 Any update to this great app? Well, between studying for my oral exam and check ride on Sunday, dealing with earthquakes, and the upcoming hurricane here in Delaware, I really have had to put the app on the back burner for the time being. If and when I make it back to California next week, I'll dive back in it. :) TM Warthog, TPR, TM MFDs, Pimax Crystal, AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D. Cougar_DK Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 I'm happy to see there is finally an android app out there for you android folks! And just a quick update on the iPhone/iPad front... I have the iPad version about 90% done and updates nearly ready for the iPhone version, but I had to abandon the work for the time being while I'm in training to learn a new plane.... It's consuming 110% of my time right now, but hopefully in the next 2-3 weeks I'll be able to resume the iPad work and submit it to Apple in September. -Sickdog Thanks Sickdog, Looking forward to the iPad version, but use the iPhone in the mean time :pilotfly:
Sickdog Posted September 8, 2011 Author Posted September 8, 2011 Thanks Sickdog, Looking forward to the iPad version, but use the iPhone in the mean time :pilotfly: It's all finished. Just have to make a new icon for the app and submit it to Apple. I think anyone who has an iPad will really enjoy having this version over the iPhone one, mostly because of the multiple orientation support but also because of many other improvements allowed by the larger screen size. Sickdog Posted September 16, 2011 Author Posted September 16, 2011 Dear Apple, Authorize this app already. Grr. I think they heard you up there in Cupertino! It was just approved a few minutes ago, and being processed for the apple store. :) I would imagine it will be available sometime in the next hour or two, but I'll make a formal announcement here when it is for sure! Thanks for the message to Apple on here, I think it helped! Oh, and in the course of writing this, I just got a message that it is ready (although I think it'll still take an hour at least to show up on the iTunes store)! Sickdog Posted September 16, 2011 Author Posted September 16, 2011 It's officially up for anyone with an iPad! http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/iwarthoghd/id464586437?mt=8 I hope you enjoy the app customized for use on the iPad. Some differences from the iPhone app: -Full rotation/orientation support (a lot of work went into just this simple addition!) -New RWR symbol reference page with links to the threat in the encyclopedia -various typos and bugs fixed from the iPhone version Still to come: -update to the iPhone app fixing bugs/typos -add weapon rearming list to the reference section Please continue to give feedback. And if you really like the app, feel free to donate a buck or two, the link to my support/donate page is within the app's iTunes page. I've put in a lot of my time working on these apps, and because I'm an amateur programmer the simplest thing takes me forever! :) Thanks everyone for the support and encouragement to continue developing this app. Happy hunting out there! First off, You're welcome! And thanks for the comment. I suppose if there's more interest in this AND WarriorX gives his blessings, I could integrate it as another checklist. To be quite frank, the time and energy to add this is way more than I'm willing to invest unless I had a ton of people jumping up and down saying, "please please!". In fact, I haven't seen much response on here at all since releasing the iPad version, so perhaps it's not getting much use. But again, if enough people tell me they want to see something, I'll consider it. TM Warthog, TPR, TM MFDs, Pimax Crystal, AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D. kylania Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 I actually have my own startup checklist I use, but I love how the checklist works in the app. The main things I use the iWarthog for are the interactive 9-Line page, the emergency procedures lists, and airport pages. Having a one page Mission Data Card would be really useful, maybe make it swipeable to the 9 Line page. Just so there's a one page, everything visible page for all the mission data like coords, freqs and callsigns and the like. There's a few changed airport names as well (like Kopitanari is Kutaisi now or something) that I'll start writing down as I come across them. :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Christmas Cheer - A Landing Practice Mission : Beta Paint Schemes : HOTAS Keyboard Map : Bingo Fuel - A DCS A-10C Movie
kylania Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 One suggestion might be a takeoff weight calculator. Put in your percentage fuel and your load out and it tells you the takeoff and landing speeds for full and empty weights. I know we change our loadouts a lot during missions and being able to quickly figure that out on the fly would be useful. Having a "customize loadout" interface like the mission editor where you can save loadouts would be ridiculously useful. Fill in your common loads then have a select 25/50/75/100 fuel and see at a glance. Runibl Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Looks real good. Although it did crash on me 2 times while creating a new mission datacard. (only tried 2 times so far). Both times after a while, and both while clicking done/plus sign to input data into a data field. Unfortunately this also erases all previously data i put in each time. The rest seems absolutely great though, and i especially love the reference pages and emergency checklists. Runi. Sickdog Posted September 23, 2011 Author Posted September 23, 2011 Thanks for the suggestions Kylania, I'll think about those. I agree it'd be nice to have one scrolling page for the data card, but I think at this point it'd be too much work to try to do that. But I definitely want to start adding some performance calculations and other tools to aid loading the A-10. Runibil- Ugh, not good to hear the crash report. Curious, do you have an iPad 1 or 2? It's possible it's a memory issue, I'll look into it. For the time being, if you wouldn't mind closing other apps and seeing if it still crashes, I'd appreciate it. If it does, make sure to save the data once and awhile until I figure out what's going on and update it. Thanks! TM Warthog, TPR, TM MFDs, Pimax Crystal, AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D. kylania Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Haven't had any crashes on the iPad, but my old pre-3GS iPhone consistently crashed trying to bring up any of the airport diagrams or any of that kind of "PDF" or "image" views. Then again it's a pre-3GS iPhone so should be shunned. Oct 4 can't come fast enough! :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Christmas Cheer - A Landing Practice Mission : Beta Paint Schemes : HOTAS Keyboard Map : Bingo Fuel - A DCS A-10C Movie
Runibl Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 (edited) It's iPad 1, and i also thought it might be related memory. All apps were already shut down as i regularly do, and the 2nd time was a fresh boot of the iPad as well. But happy to announce that it worked the 3rd time i tried. I'll report back if it crashes again. Edit: Current iOS version 4.3.4. I think there is a 4.3.5 available. I'll check for that, and see what happens Edited September 23, 2011 by Runibl Runi. Runibl Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 (edited) Same after update, it actually crashed straight away this time. Same as before, just when i click done/plus sign to input data. Second time, it worked fine. At least everything else works fine, which is propably what i use the most anyway. Edited September 23, 2011 by Runibl Runi. JEFX Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Hi! Adam, I just got an iPad2 a few days ago (just gave in...) and one of the first thing that I downloaded was your iWarthog : Congrats!!! it is a fine app, very well done, useful and beautiful!!! If you dont mind, I would have just a couple of suggestions (since you might have to upgrade it, since some airbases names will change in the next patch): first and foremost, I agree with those who spoke about it earlier in this thread : it would be fantastic to have a way to view the flight plan (mission data card) as a whole page (once it is edited, there could be another view perhaps in which one cannot edit but just view? just the data and relevant things, so we dont have to flip back and forth ...). 2) do you think it would be faisible to add to the mission data card another tab in which one could do a hand drawing (or stylus), therefore making one's sketch of a target area or flight plan, location of ennemies, etc? I always have love to make myself that kind of sketches, even when in flight, ex.: when one can see this river is here, the target is to the North, this mountain in the east is this high, our guys are here, etc...) I am thinking a drawing board like in apps like pennultimate or NotetakerHD, is that possible? 3) It would be nice also in the mission card to have a tab to enter the loadout in details (although we have our DSMS onboard...) 4) Would there be a way to validate with ED what are the REAL coded threat distances values for all SAMs and various threat units platforms so that you could incorporate a table of those? I know that we have had a few debates on the subject on this forum (actually since the very beginning of LOMAC 1) and it always seems that we have to experiment each unit to check its threat reaction enveloppe (whcih is either not given in the encyclopedia or not accurate to the game, because the encyclopedia is generic and gives general info) Anyways, I love so much your app that these are just suggestions for the future, but I want to say a big Thank you! JEFX Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Hey Sickdog, Pretty damn nice app mate! especially love the notepad! I haven't used it "in-game" yet, but been fooling around a bit with it to see in how many practical applications i can actually put it to use. I have one suggestion for you; concerning the encyclopedia-side of things, an interactive RWR section would be great. Here's what i mean; a quicker list of all the RWR icons list, which are all clickable (tap), which in turn, loads its critical information list (engagement distance, max distance/altitude reach, toa...)and a small picture of the threat, to make it easier to spot on the TGP/MAV. Basically, here's at it'd go; 1. find and tap the RWR code as it appears on your HUD 2. Pop a window/new page with critical information on threat 3.1. Offer possibility to link to Encyclopedia for further details 3.2. Back button/finger swap to return to the Notepad/RWR interactive listing. Also, this option should be selectable from the notepad view as it will most likely be the one open while in-flight. Keep up the excellent work! This is totally awesome. Edit: I can't give Rep for some reason; but i'd definitely add a +1. Cheers, In the same line of ideas, this is a great idea! I concur. I would say that, to the least, could you make a way to have a notepad page attached to encycopedia pages so at least one could jot down the missing data (engagement envelopes, max and min firing ranges, etc of many many units, which we gather with time?) thanks and REP inboud, bravo! Sickdog Posted October 23, 2011 Author Posted October 23, 2011 Hi! Adam, Anyways, I love so much your app that these are just suggestions for the future, but I want to say a big Thank you! Jean-Francois Jean-Francois, you're very welcome. Thank you for the compliments and suggestions as well. For the time being, I'm working on another project so I'm not sure when I'll revisit iWarthog for an update, but I plan to at some point for sure. I do like your idea of having the ability to sketch a diagram of the target area, I'm sure it can't be that hard to implement. And yes, I can probably integrate the mission card sections into one large scrolling view so you don't have to navigate back and forth on the iPad. The only reason why it's like that on the iPad is because I used more or less the same code that I created for the iPhone, so it was less work. ;) Thanks again for comments!
