...but be nice, if you get the Track Clip Pro then you will want to borrow one of her hairbands. At that point, she will probably just start shaking her head and walk away muttering. Problem solved.

Now I just need to get HOTAS WARTHOG joystick I have the Saitek x45. It works but you don't seem to be able to use all of it's buttones as I can't find software to work with windows 7 to fully set it up.

It's indeed a bit difficult to find the X45 drivers and software on the Saitek website. The trick is as follows: On the Saitek drivers page don't touch the left drop-down menu and select "Joysticks" in the right drop-down menu. Then another drop-down menu will appear where you can select the X45. After that, one more drop-down menu shows up where you can select your operating system version. Finally, there will be two links: One to to the Saitek X45 driver and one to the programming software.

Here are the direct links:

I am using the Saitek X45 under Windows 7 64 bit with DCS A-10C Warthog and it works flawlessly.

Concerning the TrackIR, I can confirm all positive feedback in this forum. I bought it together with a Track Clip Pro and it is really awesome.

I had Saitek x45 and I set it to use all buttons that are on A10's hotas. Just do it in options ingame settings and use one key to shift, so your hats can have dual function. So you can have on one hat TMS & Coolie, View & Trim, DMS & pinky ... radio is not so important (if you dont have enough hats ;) ) It's easy, just don't forget to save & backup your settings.

Great stuff, I will download that now. Do you have a control config you could share as well?

You make a Freetrack headset/system. Wags just released the headtracking API so now Freetrack works with 64bit DCS. My Freetrack works just as well as TrackIR, 6 degrees of freedom and all. All I did was buy a webcam, and rig three LEDs. Barely costed me $50. Plus, if something goes wrong, I can fix it myself. Full lifetime warranty. ;)

Can you explain how do I get FreeTrack to work in the 64Bit version?

What should I do with the headtracking API that Wags released?

@Kiwikidd

Try out FaceTracknoIR. If you already have a webcam it will cost you absolutely nothing. It will give you good start on head tracking and depending on your setup can work really well. No need to buy or make a clip or modify the camera either. Make sure you look through the instructions on setup first and make sure that your face is evenly lit for best results. It's a bit more resource hungry than the other solutions but if you are like me, DCS does not use all of my cpu cores or ram anyway so does not make much difference.

For my set up I use FaceTracknoIR on a PS3eye as it seems to give very good results in poor light and a very fast frame rate. I also have a Saitek x45 which has served me well. I used to use the rotary for zooming when I had a FreeTrack setup but now use 6DOF on FTnoIR so no longer need it.

The developer of FaceTracknoIR has now released an Alpha version of a dll that will now allow you play in 64bit with it. I highly recommend you go for head tracking, it will transform your game play, whichever system you choose. I'm sure TrackIR works better that the other offerings (I have never tried TrackIR) but try a free one first so you can see if its worth spending the cash on.

Similar as Mirtma suggested, I use the pinkie-switch of the Saitek X45 as a kind of shift-button such that almost all buttons and coolie hats have double functionality depending on whether the pinkie switch is held down or not. The general layout is trying to follow the layout of the real A-10C HOTAS as close as possible within the limitations of the Saitek X45 of course.

I linked my A-10C profile for the Saitek X45 below. Note that this layout has been created using a German keyboard, which may brake it if you are using a different keyboard layout. However, I labeled all key assignments in the Saitek profile editor so that it should be easily adaptable if necessary.

All you need to do is download the file from the thread I'm posting below and follow the simple instructions included in the zip.

It was just put together 2 days ago, and it works great! :joystick:

EDIT! I just found out by reading that thread that you don't even need the Freetrack wrapper apparently. So just try what Sam says to do in this post. It should be even simpler.

Got my trackIR today, oh yeah! Only able to test it out for about 5 mins but already I love it. I now see what you were all talking about. Really looking forward to giving it a good lash tonight.

Any tips on how to get the best out of it all welcome.

Thanks again for all your help at helping out a noob!
