Hello guys,

I have a weired Problem. I wanted to fly a Nightmission and wanted to enjoy the Cockpit Illumination. So I set the Time of day to 3 O clock in the morning...in Winter season.

I wondered when I came into the game why I can see everythings so clear and why the hell wont I need a night vision goggle? For some reason all Objects seems not to notice that it is at night (phrase). Does anybody has a Idea why this happens?

I´ve attached an image to represent how it looks like

I havent changed anythings in any gfx settings or other things.

My Systemspecs are provided in my sig. I´ll nontheless list them here.

OS: Win 7/ Home premium 64 Bit

CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1055T @2,8GHz

MB: M4A785TD-V EVO (AM3 / DDR3)

RAM: DDR3 4 GB

GFX AMD HD5770 1 GB non oc

Monitor: Samsung 24" TFT Monitor

Would be nice if someone would now a solution on this.

Thanks

Are there any official statements from the ED Tester Teams or ED itself? That would be helpful to get some more information on this.

It's the moon phase... or supposed to be at least. If you change the mission time to like, at least seven days in the future, then there's a good chance you will get much darker nights. Furthermore, if you change it to 14 days in the future, you should be assured to get a much darker night.

Unfortunately, the moon illumination simulation still needs some work. I was flying a night mission once, and the moon was setting. I fully expected to see it get darker outside after the moon set, but it didn't. After it set, the terrain was still just as bright as it had been before the moon set. Another time, I looked to the east and saw the full moon fairly low in the sky, clearly haven risen only an hour or so before. Just 1 problem: it was 3AM in the morning.

But yea, the reason for the bright nights is supposed to be illumination from a full or gibbous moon.

What irks me about night illumination the most however, is the high altitude, orange clouds. Most of the Caucuses region is pretty dark with a low light pollution level. On this map, really, only the places that are marked yellow and brighter would make the clouds glow badly, and you'd pretty much need to have a "red" or "white" zone (as they are known in the amateur astronomy community) before the clouds could ever glow orange like they do in DCS. See many red or white zones in this region?

In the blue, grey, and black areas of this map, which is the vast majority, the clouds over most or all of the sky should be darker than the night sky behind them. In DCS however, the high-altitude clouds overhead are illuminated like we are in the downtown area of a city of 10 million+.

Just found this in the GUI manual on Page 66

In the START field, you may edit the start time of the mission in hour : minutes : seconds / day format. Note that the mission start time will be used as the default starting time for all groups placed on the map. You can change a group's starting time using the group properties panels (described in detail further). Also note, the calendar starts with June 1st as day 0. For example, to set the mission date to July 1, set the day value to 30. To set the mission date to November 1, set the day value to 153. The default starting time for all missions is 12:00:00/0 (12:00 pm, June 1st). Changing the starting time and date will affect the position and motion of the sun, moon and stars to correspond to the time of day and year set.

Note: If you wish to adjust the darkness of night missions, you can adjust the mission start date to a date when the moon is less visible.

That might explain everythings
