Once I open the radio commands only f1 (wingman?) works. I'm doing the landing tutorial and I can't contact the airfield. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Do you have easy communications chosen in options? If not, change to easy comms, then try again.

In normal communications, you have to set the right frequencies in the radio panels: VHF AM for the ATCs, VHF FM for JTACS and UHF for general inflight comms.

The Radio freqs of the airfields can be seen on the map: F10, then click on the desired airfield. Comms freq is bottom right.

Its (just a bit) more complicated, because you have to push the right radiobutton for each task (TM Warthog recommended!!), but adds a lot to immersion. Esp. you can contact your wingies while still communicating with a JTAC.

I tried it with easy comms on and off. I can only assume I was on the right frequency as the tutorial was telling me what to input. I am able to open the radio menu using the HOTAS but once the menu is open only the F1 command works. (I think F5 is to contact the tower? I'm at work atm). Even if I was on the wrong frequency shouldn't I be able to open the menu commands anyway? I just wouldn't get a response?

Yes but I still get missions that hang up. For instance, the takeoff and basic flight mission always hangs up when it asks me to do a 360 turn. When I get home I'll try to use the radio in a quick mission.

Hello everyone!

Just thought I would add to this thread about radios instead of starting my own.

My problem is with my wingman. I've been flying the Hideout mission and can talk to the other flights just fine but with my UHF set to the correct frequency (and having tried it with the Easy Radio on and off) I still don't get anything from him. I can hear his reports just fine but can not get him to acknowlege any of my commands (he does not respond to them). With Easy coms the other flight option appears in white text while my wingman, flight, etc. appears blacked out.

This has left me without enough munitions to complete the mission, so I end up doing suicidal rocket runs! :joystick:

Anyway, I'll attach my mission track to the post if anyone can take the time to watch it and make sure I haven't goofed up the radio.

Thanks in advance and for all of the wealth of knowledge that this board represents!

If I could add as well. I have no luck at all contacting my wingman or JTAC on any missions so far. With easy comms on or off it just doesn't work. I understand about tuning into the correct frequency and making sure the radios are seton correctly but I just don't get a response at all.

Should I try re-installing the sim?

I think a re-install might be excessive and probably won't help.

If you could post a track of one of the missions where you start airborne with a wingman we can probably work out what's going on. Unless of course it works for you in that situation. :)

I think the River Raider mission might be like this, or maybe I'm thinking of the instant action missions..?

OK so I just made a track of the first devils cross campaign mission and unfortunately iys from start up but it doesn't take long to see whats happening.

Just to let you know I've read a few posts with this same issue and people mentioned about changing their .NET profile to 01 in the TAD. I tried this on this TRACK but it didn't work. All the times before I haven't touched the .NET and the outcome is still the same.

Thanks

For those having problems with their radio's, there is a tutorial and a youtube vid to watch here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1028737#post1028737

Just an FYI, the tutorial and youtube vid are set for realistic radios.

I tried the mission again today and I found my problem. I had been trying to do everything from the VHF menu, I had my frequencies correct and the radios set to transmit but was hitting the wrong direction on the china hat.

A note to anyone that is having radio issues, it isn't always china-hat forward :)

I was able to complete the mission with no suicidal rocket runs! My first "mission complete" message after I landed! I might brave a campaign soon.

Thanks again!

Just to update from me as well. I was being a right plonker. I didn't realise that you needed to program commands for the mic switch button. Since I don't have a HOTAS I was trying to contact JTAC and my wingman by pressing Left ALT and + now since programming in all the mic switch actions onto my joystick I can contact everybody fine.
