dbeaty Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 It takes a while to digest all the many details and HOTAS programming when you first start. You are not alone in that! Just play some of the Youtube JTAC vids or training missions. You have to get to the JTAC "sending data" to your TAD section, make TAD SOI, "ACK"nowledge the message, and WILCO (will comply) the mission, then use the TAD cursor to select the red triangle and make that SOI. Set your HUD to TAD SOI for steering. Slave the TGP to SOI. You'll get it soon enough! Others will give a more concise explanation. daveb Asus P6 MB i7 6GB OC'd 3.8Ghz Win 7 64bit Cogage Cooler Radeon 6870 OC'd 975Mhz Core 1250 MHz RAM TM Afterburner TrackIR [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Aardvarking it
marcus2us Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 hey attack, it happen to me the first time i flew the 1.0.08 patch. I couldn't figure out why I was not getting data sent to me by ground troops. I returned to base in shame and went straight to the manual and youtube videos to learn how to enter UTM coords. into the CDU so next time i'll be ready. I've been avoiding the CDU far to long. I found out that infantry units and other ground and air units will give you the 9 line, but not send target data. johnnychemo Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Not all JTACs can send data too. Depending on the unit tasked, you may not actually get data even if there is a "sending data" message.
billyzero Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Be sure that your JTRS switch (on the front dash) is on. Also, I wait until the NAV is loaded before turning it on (not sure if that matters). But as stated before, sometimes the JTAC just doesn't have the capability to transmit data and you have to input the data via CDU. This thread is a good tutorial (hope its ok to link it here) http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1126958&postcount=4JTAC
Attackron46 Posted July 7, 2011 Author Posted July 7, 2011 thanks all for the many replys. I guess I'm just going to have to do the homework and watch a few video. Fakum Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 After a few days of realizing, I am obviously looking for something right in front of me here,, but still cant find it? I have been doing training over and over, and have been studying how to get coordinates from JTAC for targets etc. I have watched Youtube vids and downloaded and started the JTAC training miz,,,, ok,,, you can laugh,, Where the heck do I find the radio frequency so I can call them? I know I will probably be embarrased with the answer,,, but lay it on me,,, thanks Windows 10 Pro - 64 Bit / ASUS ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming / AMD 7800X3D / G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO 64GB DDR5 6000 Ram / SSD M.2 SK hynix Platinum P41 2TB / MSI Gaming GeForce RTX 4090 SUPRIM Liquid X 24G / SteelSeries Arctis 7 Headset /LG-Ultragear 38" IPS LED Ultrawide HD Monitor (3840 x 1600) / Track IR4 / Thrustmaster TPR Pendular Rudder Pedals / Virpil HOTAS VPC Constellation ALPHA-R & VPC MongoosT-50CM3 Throttle
kylania Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 The frequency the JTAC is on is set by the mission designer. Hopefully they'll have listed it in the briefing! If not, you can go into the mission editor and view the mission and figure it out from there. Fakum Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Yeah,,, Thats the 1st place I went,, its not in the briefing (that I seen anyway),,,, as far as going into the mission editor,, I have not tried that. I thought I overlooked something,,, chance maybe I still have as I suspected there may be some way to look it up in flight? Fakum Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 http://files.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/99424/ Downloaded training miz for JTAC Windows 10 Pro - 64 Bit / ASUS ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming / AMD 7800X3D / G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO 64GB DDR5 6000 Ram / SSD M.2 SK hynix Platinum P41 2TB / MSI Gaming GeForce RTX 4090 SUPRIM Liquid X 24G / SteelSeries Arctis 7 Headset /LG-Ultragear 38" IPS LED Ultrawide HD Monitor (3840 x 1600) / Track IR4 / Thrustmaster TPR Pendular Rudder Pedals / Virpil HOTAS VPC Constellation ALPHA-R & VPC MongoosT-50CM3 Throttle
Harzach Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 That"mission" (it's a scripted tutorial, actually) is all set up for you. Your JTAC is Darknight 1 at 30Mhz FM VHF, which is already entered into the appropriate radio. This information is not included in the briefing, however. When it comes time to call JTAC, just enter [HOTAS Mic Switch Aft] (default key map is [Left Shift Numpad -]). Select JTACs and proceed through the radio call.
Fakum Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Ok,,, so Im not going totally crazy,, its not in the briefing,, I did however try to call JTAC,, but I believe I did mic switch forward (at least it was the same mic switch movement I use to contact tower) JTAC was selected and I made the call without response. I think I need to now review mic switch variations,,,, Windows 10 Pro - 64 Bit / ASUS ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming / AMD 7800X3D / G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO 64GB DDR5 6000 Ram / SSD M.2 SK hynix Platinum P41 2TB / MSI Gaming GeForce RTX 4090 SUPRIM Liquid X 24G / SteelSeries Arctis 7 Headset /LG-Ultragear 38" IPS LED Ultrawide HD Monitor (3840 x 1600) / Track IR4 / Thrustmaster TPR Pendular Rudder Pedals / Virpil HOTAS VPC Constellation ALPHA-R & VPC MongoosT-50CM3 Throttle

Fakum Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Thanks,,, ive only used the radio to date to contact tower,,, so I have alot more to train on,,, thanks for the advice,,, and just for future reference (as i understand it now) the only convienient location to get JTAC radio freq is in the briefing,,, there is no apparent means to obtain it within the cockpit correct? thanks Windows 10 Pro - 64 Bit / ASUS ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming / AMD 7800X3D / G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO 64GB DDR5 6000 Ram / SSD M.2 SK hynix Platinum P41 2TB / MSI Gaming GeForce RTX 4090 SUPRIM Liquid X 24G / SteelSeries Arctis 7 Headset /LG-Ultragear 38" IPS LED Ultrawide HD Monitor (3840 x 1600) / Track IR4 / Thrustmaster TPR Pendular Rudder Pedals / Virpil HOTAS VPC Constellation ALPHA-R & VPC MongoosT-50CM3 Throttle
Harzach Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Yes, most missions will supply all asset info in the briefing - JTACs, AWACs, Tankers, etc. Best to write everything down (or use a mission card) before you load in. Go get 'em! WarriorX's mission card here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1024526&postcount=1

Fakum Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 I’m confused here, and I have been sifting thru a lot of threads, printing out step by step procedures, and doing my best to put them all together so it makes sense. This particular YouTube Tutorial (which I find very easy to follow) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcJ8mlMF7qg does something that I do not comprehend. He gets the JTAC coordinates, creates the waypoint 1st (which I presumed will be the location of the target he is about to enter the coordinates in for), which by default comes up named MS00 yada yada,,, he then renames it to TG1, which makes perfect sense to make it “Target 1”, then it becomes “TG2” once the coordinates are punched in and entered,,,,,,he then cycles to TG2 for the targets? OK,,,,, why is this not TG1? Fakum Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Ooooooo,,,, Geeshhhhh,,, hahahahah,,,, I have been training since day one,,, unfrtunatly I only get an hour or 2 a day to train,,, I bet about 80% of my time is trying to find reasons why I cant do something, or solving a problem is searching and reading in here. I almost thru in the towel last night when for the last 2 weeks I have been trying to get a complete grip on JTAC,, I have watched as many youtube vids as are avail,,, downloaded a miz,,, printed up and highlighted procedures on paper. There are different variations of how people actually do it,, but I have consolidated enough to make it seem preety straight forward. I tried something different last night, and went into a mission that had JTAC,,, got in,, got the 9 line,,, long story short,, I ignored the rename issue,,,, I find the coordinates were about 850 miles away???,,, I exit the game, do it all over,,, same thing,,,, I mean no disrespect,, I truley love the work here and in the production,,, this is the best support group and sim ever! It just gets frustrating for those of us that cant spend hours a day trying to debug,,,, I keep getting through one aspect of training,, move to another to get trapped trying to understand why I cant get past something,, thinking it is me,, and sometimes it is,,, but not knowing its a bug is enough to make a man cry after all the effort HAHAHAHA,,,,,,, I just need an asprin now,,,,, Again,, no disrespect,,, just a mild vent,,, you guys are the best!!!! Fakum Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 I actually just tried one mission for training: http://files.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/59516/ I didnt see it in the map view by clicking on JTAC,,, maybe if it is avail, it has to be put in during the mission developement? Fakum Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Ok,,, got thru a mission entered JTAC coordinates, foung and took out targets,,, then I got a call for more targets elsewere,, so I punched in the coordinates in the scratch pad, but when I hit enter,,, I got "CDU Input error" Ok,,,,seems if I already had the 1st coordinates in,, the procedure to input another coordinate for targets isnt as straight forward as it was when I initially put in coordinates? kylania Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Pretty sure you need to create a new waypoint first (the 3? button on the bottom right of the MFD on the Waypoint page) then enter the coords. The first time you make one you don't need to make the waypoint first, but the second it seems you do, so I've taken to always just making one first via the (nextWaypointNumber)? OSB. 711Hancer Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 It's a bug: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=76868 It is a bug but a useful bug I think, whenever you edit a waypoint coordinate but keep the name same it will put a number near it. So for example you set a new waypoint for the target JTAC assigned to you as coordinates. (i.e, named it as Tanks) when you first clicked the ? on CDU page and named it as TANKS it will be named as TANKS. But it keeps the original coordinate with the displayed waypoint. Then when you enter the coordinates JTAC gave you to your newly created TANKS waypoint, it will change it to TANKS1 since you changed the initial coordinate. After your attack you can get re-assigned to another target by the JTAC. Instead of creating another waypoint by pressing the ? on CDU, you can use your TANKS waypoint again. Simply change its coordinates again to your newly assigned target and the waypoint name will be TANKS2. It simply shows how many times you modified your waypoint. Do not forget to switch to MISSION knob on the CDU control panel.
