Teriander Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Ok, everytime I talk with JTAC I ask him: ....What do you have for us?" Then JTAC starts telling me targets it wants me to destroy. And what direction the SAM or AAA threats are... My question is, how can I tell JTAC to assign a certain type of target for me? For example, If Im entering an area of operation, I want JTAC to tell me where the SAMs are first so I can take them out. Then I want to know where the AAA (if any) are. Then I'll focus on the Primary Target or Tanks. How can I get JTAC to give me exact cords. of SAMs? Im tired of spending half of the mission time trying to spot the exact location of the SAM site that JTAC just warned me about before he told me to take out a tank column. He tells me the UTM of the Tanks just find, the SAMs I need to guess.. Somewhere NorthEast about 6 miles, thats all he tells me.
cichlidfan Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 The basic answer is to create your own mission. JTAC is scripted and the exactness of the location given is at the discretion of the mission author. You can set JTAC up so that the location he gives you is dead on, if that is what you want. At least when I set up a JTAC and then flew the mission, the coordinates I got were right where I defined them to be. But I am new at the ME stuff.:book: ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! Grimes Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 JTACs are typically assigned targets via the mission editor, and they then give the targets in the same order of attack to the player. Chances are that the sam or AAA threats in the area are simply not assigned to the JTAC to be attacked. I suppose one solution is to open up the mission and make sure the JTACs assign you the SAMs. Although, part of why it is setup up that way is that by knowing what type of threats exist and where they are located relative to your target is to use that information to setup your attack to best avoid the threats. And that eliminating sams makes your job easier, but doing so isn't necessarily the objective. The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. The other issue about the location of threats is that in RL, from what I have read, the SAM or AAA units locations are frequently only known roughly based on where activity has been seen without the actual unit being located. I have found this not to be the case with an AFAC so be wary when mission building. Even the priority system doesn't seem to work with airborne or ground based FACs. I have tested with AFACs, stationary FACs & mobile FACs and found the whole system does NOT work as advertised I'm afraid. So be ready for mixed results with the JTAC system. Hopefully it will be better in 09 patch. i7-7700K : 16Gb DDR4 2800 Mhz : Asus Mobo : 2TB HDD : Intel 520 SSD 240gb : RTX 2080ti: Win10 64pro : Dx10 : TrackiR4 : TM Warthog : ASUS ROG SWIFT PG348Q
Druid_ Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 (edited) When the JTAC will tell you the relative position of other threats in his brief. e.g. SA-13 5nm NE (IIRC). You just have to go looking for them with your TGP. Using the offset page on your CDU you can even plot that approx position, display it on your TAD then start scanning the area with your tgp My question is, how can I tell JTAC to assign a certain type of target for me? The first test worked fine from as far as radio went but I never got the data transmission. The next day the same mission and I never got a response at all. Try three, was after ripping the JTAC out and putting it back and that time it worked just fine but since I did not change the way it was created I am now guessing this might be part of the bugs your are seeing. Or am I having a different issue? Or am I having a different issue? For the JTAC to transmit target position on datalink he has to have EPRLS in the advanced options of the GUI. Beware only certain units have this capability e.g. A10c, Humvee, MRLS. Having said that I have replaced a FAC once when the previous just didn't work for some unfathomable reason. Frustrating to say the least ... i7-7700K : 16Gb DDR4 2800 Mhz : Asus Mobo : 2TB HDD : Intel 520 SSD 240gb : RTX 2080ti: Win10 64pro : Dx10 : TrackiR4 : TM Warthog : ASUS ROG SWIFT PG348Q

In the one rip it out and put it back situation there were no differences before and after except that the second time it worked. I shall continue to experiment and hope the next patch makes it better. Thanks again.
