Zakatak
The main problem with non-HOTAS users is the lack of buttons on these controllers, like this Logitech 3D Pro here. I managed to fit everything I need (and more) into Flaming Cliffs 2 however, with modifiers that let me have 3x the amount of commands I would normally have. (although using shift/alt/ctrl is awkward as hell with this thing) Although with this game, there are so many damn buttons, I don't know where to put what, and nor do I know how a true flight stick would be set up. I have no idea how to set this up so I am not exactly ready to take on this game with any sort of efficiency. So could you kindly give me some setup ideas so I can pay you nothing in return? Thanks. Also, is an X52 worth it? Is something more expensive worth it? Is a cheap HOTAS like the T.Flight X worth it? Should I even bother? I am gaming on a laptop, so im not exactly hardcore. ZQuickSilverZ
I posted a setup already. It is only good for Su25t however. I am sure it can be modified for the other aircraft. Here is the link http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1240938#post1240938 Every button can do two things when you use the Logitech profiler. However you need to program a shift key to get the secondary function. Note this shift is not the shift on your keyboard but a function of the stick, also note that the hat switch can be programmed with 2 functions as well. Voice Control Software (I use Game Commander 2) can make up for any buttion deficiencies. You can have a coms button (one button / two functions) that works for both TS3 and Voice Control Software using the shifting method without fear of "crosstalk". If you have any questions or are intrested in Voice Control Software give me a PM. Edit....... Wow I feel stupid. You need one for DCS BS. OK I will work one up and post it. Chalk this to a long day in 100 plus degree weather. Edited July 10, 2011 by ZQuickSilverZ 1 I need, I need, I need... What about my wants? QuickSilver original. Boulund
There are pictures of how the real stick and collective are setup in the manual for DCS Black Shark. Have a look there. I made a (in my opinion) really good profile for the Extreme 3D Pro a while back, I'll see if I can find it using the search function -hint hint- ;). Update: I found my old(!) post with my old profile. Maybe something has changed with the profiling software since then but I guess you should be able to have a look at it at least. http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=619181&postcount=5 Edit: I thought I could be nice and mention that I used button 11 as a modifier and that the profile assumes you have some kind of headtracking so that you can free up the hat on the stick for better uses :). 98abaile
Set all 6 buttons on the base as modifiers and use the buttons on the stick for functions, this gives you 30 buttons, 6 triggers and 6 8 way hats, for a total of 84 mappable functions before you factor in multiple modifiers and keyboard modifiers. As for what they should be mapped to, thats up to personal preference and what you find intuitive. The X52 IS worth it (although try find one second hand, they are a bit pricey), especially for BS thanks to it's soft spring, but be aware that programming the rotaries and slider to do something is a pain in the arse. ZQuickSilverZ
I thought you could only do ONE shift (I guess your refering to them as modifiers) function. Are you saying you can get more than two functions per button. I need, I need, I need... What about my wants? QuickSilver original. "Off with his job" Mr Burns on the Simpsons. Nate--IRL--
You can have as many modifiers as you like, you can even combine them for even more functions. This is done in DCS itself - Don't use the Logitech profiler. I have the bottom 6 buttons (No.s 7 to 12) as Modifiers in DCS on mine. This is my setup for Warthog (I haven finished one for Black shark yet). Button 1 = Cannon Button 2 = Weapon Release Button 3 = Nvgs Button 5 = NWS Button 4 or 6 = China Hat Edit:- to make it clearer, Buttons 7-12 are on the base of the Joystick, 1-6 are on the stick. Hat = Slew Button 7 + Hat = Trim Button 8 + Hat = Coolie Hat Button 9 + Hat = DMS Button 10 + Hat = TMS Button 12 + Hat = CMS Button 7 + Button 2 = Master Mode cycle Button 7 + Button 3 or 4 = Zoom Button 7 + Button 5 or 6 = Speed Brakes Button 8 + Button 4 = Autopilot Button 8 + Button 3 or 5 = Boat Switch Button 9 + Button 3, 5 or 6 = Pinkie switch Button 10 + Button 3, 5 or 6 = Mic Switch Button 12 + Button 2 = CMS Z-axis This is from memory so I may have left one or two things out. ZQuickSilverZ
That is interesting. I did not know you could do that. I have my joystick doing key presses so I guess I never explored the games profiler that deeply. I need, I need, I need... What about my wants? QuickSilver original.
