Additional codecs for ME Record AVI Tool (RAT)

RECORD AVI - a Mission Editor tool

Problem:

NOTE: This sshot comes from 1.0.1. In 1.0.2 the selection of codecs is limited to just two possibilities.

th_record_avi_missioneditortool.jpg

This makes the video editing workflow really cumbersome, even for those who are techy and familiar with video editing workflow involving lossless formats. I recall c0ff saying that he'd like to see Lagarith lossless codec implemented but no further details have been posted.

Proposed solution:

Implementation of at least Lagarith lossless codec.

I've just purchased a copy of WH and wanted to try out that Lagarith codec. Could someone more knowledgeable in the coding department help me out? From \Doc\Video Capture API\readme.txt it looks like a 10 minutes task for a coder. For me it could be a week, 100 posts and no guarantee of success...

I've already tried with

in section:

local video_codecs = { formats={

my custom line

["4. Lagarith lossless"] = {encoder="DLL:lagarith.dll", filename="%s.avi"},

WH crashes at rendering initialization.

Checked last post. Sorry. My YT channel latest video

was done with OGV converter. You're viewing the default 360px res. In HD it kicks ass... In practice, OGV takes less HDD space, and is faster with processing, and even produces better quality video than AVI encoding. I tried my native resolution and got far better results from OGV. I'm seriously considering purchasing that converter software. An entire mission cost 6.9 Gb of OGV file while AVI took most of the HDD space and abruptly crashed the game. with that software, I converted that 6.9Gb into a youtube compatible version of 1.2 Gb same resolution. apart from the flickering at the start of each video, I'd say OGV is greater.

I don't own A-10C so I guess there's one more thing to look for in BS-WH compatibility patch :)

WOOT? You kiddin? I thought you had it!!!

AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

AFAIK, youtube does support OGV directly, just not advertises it.

Can you, please, elaborate on flickering problem?

Certainly. Just watch this track I made using my native resolution

1366 X 768, 24 fps, Max quality (100), and Theora+Vorbis compression. This was converted by this program to FLV, which I directly uploaded to youtube.

Everytime the video is recorded, you see that flickering grey before the screen adapts. Maybe its my GPU. I don't know.

Can't reproduce such grey picture. What videocard do you have, how much videomemory?

BTW, do you see this grey filling during the process of recording video (i.e. track playback in mode "RECORD VIDEO")? Or you see it only in final .ogv file (if yes - what about checking another videoplayer?)?

No I dont see it. My gpu is ATI HD5650 mobility radeon. my laptop is VPCEA16FA. Vram is 1Gb but that is standard, shared over ram currently at 2.5Gb. Its not a big deal, and I could try recording from 10 seconds from the start. like 12:00:10:00 instead of 12:00:00:00

I don't think anything related to OGV is on topic as it's available in RAT by default while the topic is on additional codecs.

Apologies Boocheech. :helpsmilie:

NP. Catch me a coder and we'll be square :)

Please head to the RECORD AVI - a Mission Editor tool to read about OGV and some additional tip for you (writing up as we speak)...

Hi Bucic,

What did you put in the /bin folder? If it crashes it could be caused by a wrong/missing dll

It won't work. DLL should conform to Video Capture API described in the documentation.

That is: it should be a custom-written DLL.

I did nothing apart from the small line, because I was eager but clueless :D Also I don't have DCS installed on my system.

Wut?! You don't have DCS? I don't get your point.:dontgetit: I'd say, use your motivation to become clued lol... I just started creating the plugin, and guess what, I'm about to throw the PC into the wall. It's gonna take a lot of time XD since those students are so busy and can't figure out how I could implement the Lagarith codec into the dll :wallbash:. I'm not a pro and I've something else to do, so be patient plz :bomb:

I did my time in DCS, now no more :) I sold my copy of Hog, Shark is laying somewhere. Please keep up your work on the plugin. One has to try lossless video to learn how awesome it is!

OK. I'm back on it for a lil' (hangovers are gone right now:puke::D).

I'm actually asking on a french forum to know more about the C++ cause I'm missing some params about the audio buffer and video frame, also I don't really get the point of adding resolution and FPS parameters in the Header since we have to choose it in the ME.

Well C0ff if you read that, be ready to receive an e-mail soon, I need your help to get my happy end  (you know what I mean:yes:) However I let you in your holiday until my next recovery (around 3rd Jan 2013):holiday:
