Today i got on a server a gbu 38 fail.I tried to reload the station and load the dsms again. Nothing happened. Finally I powered off the station. After a "erased" and then "aln uns" the status went back to "fail". The failure came after a hung store.

Is this a bug or is there a way to get the bomb working again in the air?

Have a look at WarriorX's guide. Edit: apparently the ability to reset hung JDAMs was fixed in a patch, so skip this post and read EtherealN's below.

As a practical note, a hung store won't normally be reset in-flight - the pilot would either jettison it or return to base with it and let the ground crew deal with it. It's very easy to avoid getting a hung store just by employing the weapon properly, so I guess in real life if it does hang it's due to a fault with the some component of the weapon system and you wouldn't risk trying to deploy it knowing there's a fault.

A hung GBU-38 cannot be reset. At start of release sequence (when WPN REL is depressed) it fires a chemical battery in the munition. This battery is a one-time-use affair. If you fail to release the weapon for whatever reason, it's unusable. The only way to use it will be to bring it back home and have the weapon specialists open it and swap out the battery board.

Is that now reflected in the game? I had a feeling that being able to reset a hung JDAM was corrected in one of the patches, but I'm not sure. Don't make enough of a habit of hanging stores to have committed the reset procedure to memory.

Thanks for your answers.

But now i have another question. Can i fix the problem with the hung store on any guided bomb at all? I think if jdams have a battery then lgb's will have battery, too? What about the battery in a maverick?

And why do they use a chemical battery instead, for example a lithium-ion battery?

Maybe someone could it explain for me :smilewink:.

Is there a battery in the gbu10/12 for the seeker/fins?

The LGB doesn't require any time to transfer target coordinates, run a huge BIT, check for INS alignment and GPS function or anything like that. You pickle it and it drops.

The Maverick used to have such a problem, but it was eliminated by suplying 'pickle voltage' to the missile even if you released the pickle early.

They supply a lot more power and probably for longer. They may also be safer/cheaper/something or other.

In the case of a GBU-38 or 31, if you release the pickle too early, you still have a chance to drop it within a few seconds of the hung store indication, so try to drop it again right away.

All guided weapons contain a battery, be they A/G or A/A.

Thanks for your answer GGTharos. Now i understand it.

And here another question^^

Sometimes i fire my mavs in force correlate tracking mode for better range. I found out if the range is to long (15nm) that the mavs explode on the 3/4 way even if they could easily fly into the target. Is there a reason for this behaviour?

Posted

Yes - that for now is a weapon flight modeling issue. Not much that can be done about it for the moment. I don't think you could get 15nm out of an A-10 mav launch in RL though.

If this one is correct it's theoretically possible, but... :P
