Just thought I would invite a few new pilots to a session I'm hosting on Sunday. It's for new pilots who want to get to grips with the basic systems and to have a bit of fun.

Next Session: Sunday 21st August

Wow this sounds great. I just got this game a few days ago and am struggling to understand things through the tutorial missions. I get so far and then lose track of something or don't understand and there's no way to skip back or ahead to the certain points.

I'm new to flight simulators and have a Saitek X45 but I don't really know how to map the controls that well so I am just using default (meaning most buttons and the HAT switches don't function in game) and the keyboard.

I promise I won't try to crash you though! I just have small issues like understanding the ingame ATC lingo (much different than FSX or civilian aircraft) and small stuff like that.

Hopefully I will be able to make this. I need to get a good mic. Any suggestions?

Yeah, I would love to jump on this, but I'm working on figuring out what I need to do to make the game a bit smoother. At the moment it's like watching a slide show.

Hi UberFinn (welcome to the forums)

I bought a Saitek gaming headset for about £25 which works very well.

The most essential controls you need to have on your stick are following:

TMS Up/Aft/Left/Right

DMS Up/Aft/Left/Right

Coolie Hat

HOTAS Slew

Pinkie Switch

Master Control Mode Select

Nose Wheel Steering

Air Brakes (if possible)

Boat Switch Left/Right/Centre

Aircraft Trim

Landing Gear / Flaps would help but not essential

I have bound these to my X52 using nothing but the internal control options in DCS. Hopefully you can do the same with your X45 even though theres not as many buttons. Perhaps the programming software will help.

Having these controls on your stick will help emmensely. Finding the appropriate key combinations on the keyboard is a real pain.

What are you specs?

What are you specs?

AMD Athlon II X2 240 2.9g

4g DDR2

NVIDIA GeForce 210 1g

Win7 x64

Certainly not a booming system, but I'm fine in BS with it. A-10 seems to be a bit much.

The wife & I have identical systems so I was going to borrow her RAM & see if that does the trick before looking at any major replacing. Unfortunately she's quite the gamer too, so sneaking off with her sticks, even briefly, is quite the task.

Cheating on her would be easier

I have an athlon based system too. I found that the power profiles in Windows 7 seem to cause the CPU to thottle down.

Try going into power management in Control Panel and set your power profile to high performance. See if that makes any difference. My system is an Athlon II X4 with a ATI 5770 1GB, so not that much different to yours.

Hey, thanks for the tip.

Unfortunately it didn't help much. I sit at a pretty solid 8 fps in the pit during lessons. That's with everything pretty much set to low & my resolution dropped to where it's not even full screen.

Yeah. Reading the topics in the A-10 side there are folks with beastly machines that have issues with roughly the same. I guess I lack the magic combo atm.

Nonetheless, I'll kill the hijacking of the topic with a thank you & hope to see you in BS at least lol.

It would be cool if we had a DCS SU25T that could be run on the same server. The two would compliment each other nicely.

Yes it would...Unfortunately the only way this is possible ATM is to use the A-10A and the Su-25T in FC2. Perhaps ED will make the upcoming compatibility patch work with FC2 as well. Doubt it, though.

It's not the fall that gets you. It's the Godawful sudden stop at the end.

It was fun!

I hope to make this a regular thing so I am wondering if anyone would like to volunteer as instructors. If we had two or three instructors we could include more people.

hey ross. I'm itching for that session. If we are going to practice, how much aircrafts would be there? And are we going to fly on a combat mission? Stock missions or DL? please specify so I prep myself. Any ports to open on router?

Going ugly server, how do I find it? I've bookmarked this thread, and will check it shortly.
